    New or junkyard?

If you are paying a resto shop to restore original fenders it's about a wash money wise vrs new metal. Replacement metal is fine but will still take some refinement. New Square Jimmy owner, starts with the floors

You're going to spend a lot of money and brainpower on something that needs to be up to original GM specs only. IMHO.

    1978 C20 5.3 swap

Unless you have drone issues, that x or h pipe is worth about 5 hp. not worth it in my world.

    87' 350 SBC Rebuild

I'm confused as to why you would want to put electric fans on a mostly stock build. A good radiator and fan clutch setup should be perfectly fine.

My go to combo is long tube headers, 21/2"flowmaster 50 series mufflers, and 21/2" pipes exiting behind the wheels. No drone and a nice rumble.

    Hello & Seeking Restoration Info

Not only does a restoration take a long time depending on the shop, their backlog could easily be a year or more. My wait was 14 months.

Need advice on what to do.

Maybe there is a HS or college auto shop class in your area that would take on your repair. That is not big damage and relatively routine to repair for a veteran body guy. In my experience, if you have damage (rust) in the places shown, there is more to be found where you may not have looked.

1988 Crew Cab 454 TBI Knock

Mighty good advice in my opinion. You will have to determine where your budget and talent limits are and go from there.

    hypothetical, mpg

I do all of the small things to improve mileage and performance as hedders, aluminum intake, dual exhaust without an x pipe and nothing more. My POV should not be confused with your POV. My squares perform as built and I accept the gas mileage as it is. To buy one and expect it to do something...
