    Which 350 ?

Should I forgo my notion of hopping up my 305 and follow the most popular suggestion of going to a 350, the huge question becomes: What 350 to start with?? I want NO computers, hence NO fuel injection. I want a 1 piece rear main so I don't have to purchase a new flywheel. Should I be...

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

Thanks. Definitely food for thought. As for heads, both sets which I am considering were 305HO heads. Both have 1.84" intake and 1.50" exhaust the 601's have a slightly smaller chamber to boost compression ratio to about 9.6; the 416 would yield about 9.0 but I am not sure which pistons that...

Thanks! Isn't that cam a bit on the mild side? What are its advantages/disadvantages? I wouldn't mind going a bit hairier.......

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

I have not purchased the heads, cam,or intake. I have 601 heads available for $50.00/pr and 416's for $100.00 both probably needing valve jobs. I KNOW that moving up to a 350 would be the way to go........but I am following the old adage "work with what you have." Much $$$$ to be spent on...

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

I am still contemplating livening up my 305. Truck is an 84 C10, but engine is a 1-piece rear seal 305, so, unsure of year. Odd serial # almost makes me suspect it is a crate motor. Tranny is Muncie M20 Rear 3.73 posi. I have Hedman 1 5/8" long tube headers and 2 1/4" dual exhaust with Walker...

    304 Carb suggestions

Yup. 80457S is what I purchased. The only spot of bother was fitting the fresh air intake for the PCV system to my Edelbrock air cleaner. The carb is so long that I had a hard time finding a place to route the hose that did not interfere with linkages, bowls, auto choke, etc. I finally attached...

    304 Carb suggestions

I wound up with a Holley Street Warrior factory refurb off ebay for $229.99 including shipping and a 1 year warranty. I received it in 2 days and it appears to be virtually brand new! It went right on and started fight up. Couple of idle adjustments later and all is well...... This was just the...

    Mixing JB3 and JB5 brakes

I definitely had shoes installed correctly. As a follow up, I finally got the truck back on the ground after installing 3.73i posi in place of the 2.73 open diff. I upgraded the rear brake system to JB5, same as on the front. Rear skidding is OVER.....matching components did the trick.

    304 Carb suggestions

Thanks! Do you have the part # for the carb? The standard is a 4478. I am not familiar with the term "Level 2" I have found a great deal on a Holley Street Warrior, but it is a manual choke. 600cfm and virtually new. I am thinking.........

    304 Carb suggestions

1984 C10 305 w/manual tranny. As purchased the truck has a very worn Edelbrock 1406. Throttle shaft and bore so worn that it sticks open when running unless I really put the tension to the return spring. Really makes driving with a manual tranny a pain........ So, I seek suggestions as to what...

    How Tight Carrier

I had thought about the stacking of tolerances, but, as the TIR is same for both parts, I can't think it can be improved by changing the orientation. I am not certain that the measurements are the same at the same point on each part (I may verify that,) but still do not believe I can do much better.

    How Tight Carrier

I have rechecked and do indeed find extremes as I posted. Most readings are .007" to .008" I checked the lateral runout of the back side of the carrier flange and found a TIR of .003" This matched the runout I measured on the backside of the mounted ring gear. Is that normal/acceptable?? I...

I will recheck, but I did get readings in both extremes. I only have a bar style 1/4" in/lbs torque wrench. I have seen people use them. I really don't want to purchase a dial type....... I may try to torque the ring gear bolts when I have the carrier out for crush sleeve installation. Dunno if...

Those are actual dimensions with a mag base dial indicator as close to 90° to tooth face as I can get. I checked contact pattern in 2 places and all was amazingly good. I did apply resistance to the ring gear when testing. Now to remove everything in order to install the crush sleeve and hope...

    How Tight Carrier

After a few attempts I was able to get backlash set to .006" min to .009" max. Now, on to contact patch. I'll use the yellow stuff for first try. If I have to make additional attempts and run out of yellow stuff, can I use white teflon grease?
