    Does the THM350 have a vacuum modulator on it? If not, you don't need the position sensor on the pump.

    Some of them had a vacuum switch that would indicate a restricted filter by illuminating the water in fuel light. The switch is sealed to the housing with an O-ring, and in time they will leak. Easy fix, pull the housing off the firewall, undo the clip that holds the switch in and change the...

    You may do better to measure voltage on the solenoid with it energized. Something that experiences a lot of arcing like the contacts on a solenoid may not show continuity with the low amperage that a multi-meter can supply, but may still work with real current.

    I don't have time to reread all if that to see what your exact symptoms were, but the glowplugs will short-cycle a few times after start and they will short-cycle after the wait light goes out if the engine isn't cranked. Hope that helps.

    Glow plugs are only for cold starting, so they should not come on when the engine is warm. You'd need a schematic to see if there is a separate cutoff switch like the later systems. I don't believe there is. I always thought these had it built in to the controller, but I have an '85 as well, so...

    If it's an original '82 he's going to have the earlier style controller/sensor with the divorced relay. I have a couple of these kicking around if you need one.

    Ouch. I picked up a bare Olds 455 block once but it was to move it in and out of a parts washer. Not off the deck. That was enough for me. I've developed a lot of techniques for lifting heavy objects now. None of them involve my back.

    An acquaintance had a boat they named "Wild Life Management." It provoked a lot of reaction. But obviously a sport fishing boat doesn't look like an LE craft either. Just saying there may be a way to play with the concept without invoking the jealousy of the title-power people.
