I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

Why are the outer main bolts not installed?

I think a rod spun a bearing in my rebuilt 454

I think Ricko and some others are giving some solid advice and I'd definitely stick with what you already have. If it's a true reputable machine/ engine shop, I'd give them a second chance as they "should" know what they are doing. If going to another shop, this is what I suspect you'd pay...

73-87 Rear Disc Brake Conversion Problem

Yes, they can be mounted upside down and I have done that purposely on my own truck. It allows you to run the p-brake cable over the axle so it doesn't snag off road. To bleed, I'd unbolt, turn bleeder side up, place a 2x4 or block in between the pads, and then reinstall. Additionally, the...

73-87 Rear Disc Brake Conversion Problem

This! Ratcheting the p-brake is a must

    1974 NOS doors.

Only NOS once and I can conceivably see someone paying $750. After that, reworking a good used or aftermarket would be a better off as the doors weren't perfect originally to begin with and the aftermarket isn't that bad

    Sear's Craftsman Handi Cut Cutter

I have one. Works well. Use it mainly for cutting hoses. Sold under several brands. Replacement blades available on Amazon.

    1" ORD body lift

The ORD zero-rate blocks are great. I installed a set on my K5. They have a lot more surface area on the cast part of the differential where the spring rides. I moved my axle centerline forward 1" if I recall correctly which helped but not eliminated the tire hitting the rear edge of the front...

    Suggestions for replacing this?

Ok, not in my shed. I have a few other bins to dig through. I can do that Tuesday. I also am about to install poly bushings on my C30 later this week. If those are the same you are welcome to them as well.

    Suggestions for replacing this?

Looks like you are in Phoenix, I'm on the westside. I have a couple of buckets of old parts. As soon as the sun goes down a bit, I'll dump them out and see if I saved any.

    Tonneau cover recommendation

Wow, thanks Michael, I didn't know. Sucks as they were the only place for a lot of items. They had the highest quality side trim for our trucks. And they were the only place that had the bolts I needed for our '77 bed. They were supposed to come out with the fleet side toolbox this fall and I...

    Tonneau cover recommendation

How secure does it need to be? What's the main purpose? Basically 2-3 different styles and 2-3 materials. Roll-up- flexible for loads Tri-fold- flexible for loads 1 piece- Looks the best IMO but PITA if you have to haul anything oversize. My sister had one on her F150 and she had to remove...

Can't get rid of play in the steering

Wow, didn't know they were that flexy those years! I'll have to take a closer look at one next time I see. I was actually going to use the later rear crossmember at the tail of the bed on my 77 as I figured the holes would create some additional access that I could have used.

Can't get rid of play in the steering

Not worth it unless you want the wow factor. The problem with the front cross member is that they are riveted. Remove the rivets and drill it out to 7/16(IIRC), install good grade 8 hardware and it gets much stiffer. Also the bumper needs to be aligned and tight. If running large wheels or...

Uneven rear main seal, help needed.

I doubt crank is damaged or machined wrong and most likely just a bent/ damaged rear seal housing. I assume the crank turns over easily enough or you'd have hard time installing rod/ piston?

    V2500 4in lift replacement? ORD?

When they work, they are great. But, I can't think of anyone I've ever met/ known that has had them work perfectly/ reliably from day of install to say, 5 years down the road. Line failures, compressor failures, bag ruptures, controller issues, etc. Something else to maintain, something else to...

What would you pay for this truck?

We cut my son's truck down but not totally sure I'd buy one already done unless I knew who did the work. A lot of them have z'd frames and the work is suspect. And because people are apprehensive like me, it really affects the value and you better be sure you plan on keeping the truck. We used...

How to properly remove a cab without damage

I did the same as Michael here. I used 2 2x4's with notches to keep the cab from sliding off, spaced 4" apart. If using a HF cherry picker, needs to be the larger one as it has a longer reach.

    V2500 4in lift replacement? ORD?

Just some thoughts based on my K5 build. 35" tire will hit the back of the front fender if going off-road. I'd go 6" lift or 33" tire. 4 or 6" Deaver Spring up front with 1" ORD spring block 2.5 or 4" Shackle flip w/ Deaver Spring in rear. Sulastic shackles on rear greatly improves ride when...

    Free, you pick up.

I could use the glass out of the door. I'm in PHX but my son might go to Escondido next month. If you still have the door/ glass, I'll take it. Obviously first come, first served. Id just hate to see you scrap it if nobody else wants it.

Who sells the best replacement gas tank

A little bit more expensive but I like tanks inc for replacement tanks. They come powder coated. For custom tanks, I typically like Ricks.

whats every body using.. looking for a new stereo head unit

Well, I could use some advice for my 90 Crew...I just want it clear sounding and simple. My thoughts: Retro 1.5 din in dash. No cutting needed since it's a 90 6x9's in rear corners. 5" or 4x6 in each door(4 total) 3.5 in front corners 1-2 of those self powered retro sound subs under rear...

Auto wiper lifters to save edge

Yes, but if you notice the angle of the "tail" of the twist tie, it is placed in a drag position thereby creating down force much like a spoiler. This feature allows increased pressure on the blade for a superior wipe.
