Anyone running an 8.1, what trans are you using?

You definitely need to disassemble it to get to the shaft to replace it, but it may or may not have the reluctor gear on it all the way up to 97. Its super easy to just pop it on when you have it out though. I think it was only ~$15 for a brand new reluctor gear and it took me 10 minutes to just...

Anyone running an 8.1, what trans are you using?

A 4L80, even in completely stock form, should have no problem at 582TQ. Unless you are drag race launching it or pulling very heavy loads, it will be just fine. You only need to change the output shaft, rear lube plug, and add a tailhousing to convert the 4wd to 2wd.

    Any AC gurus?

I just fill it slowly on the low pressure side using a gauge set I have until the high side pressure stabilizes at the right pressure for the ambient temperature. Then I check the vent temps to make sure it is hitting the right values and send it. I fill the individual components with PAG while...

    L76 Rebuild

I just bought a National LM603049 bearing(apparently A-37 will also work) and took it apart. The rollers are tapered and a perfect fit for the oil towers for the DOD system. They will drop right in and a few light taps secure them in the block, then you never need to replace the O-rings...

    L76 Rebuild

I was underwhelmed by TSP. I tried calling their tech support to get their thoughts on a cam selection and there was a lot of "huh?". They seemed more like salesmen than techs and it took a lot of back and forth to get VVT cam tables that their own website said they would provide. If I was doing...

    Hot ground wire

As Dingo said.. you need, AT A MINIMUM, the same size wire for the grounds as you have providing power from the battery. Since you have the main power feed through a 4AWG wire straight to the starter, you need at least that much going from the block back to the battery.

    Hot ground wire

That strap is supposed to go from the back of the cylinder head to the cab firewall. You need a minimum 4AWG wire from the alternator bracket or block to the frame and then same gauge from the frame to the Battery. That strap is not going to flow nearly enough without massive amounts of...

    Air Compressor Issue

Best bet is to get your multimeter out and check whether you are actually getting 220. Are you sure you connected it to the 220 circuit on the generator? That generator should be able to provide 240V/31A continuous and 240V/40A peak... which should be plenty for a 22A electric motor.

    Charcoal canister delete?

If that is happening, I would say you have a purge issue. Running the T into the overflow line will make it a closed system and you would need to get a vented cap in order to prevent the tank from blowing up or collapsing

    Air Compressor Issue

Best guess is that the generator and/or compressor are not wired correctly for what you are trying to do. My 60 gallon compressor with a 6hp 220 motor will run fine on my 9.5Kw generator. It should only surge the voltage at the initial startup of the compressor and run fine after that. Pics of...

    Transmission cooler ideas

You can still get quality stacked plate coolers. I have a tru-cool 40k on my 2011 Burb and it stays no more than 70 degrees above ambient... no matter what I'm doing to it. I'll probably run an H7B or M7B on the square for the 4L80.

    4l80e rebuild gone wrong...

Round pattern 205? Or did you modify a figure 8 to have the long input? I have a stock 205 Figure 8 with the short input as it originally had a TH400 in front of it. I'm using the stock adapter with a Northwest Fab adapter plate and cut down a 2wd output shaft to fit the required 4-7/8" length...

    4l80e rebuild gone wrong...

That didn't happen because the output shaft was wobbly. They are all wobbly and free floating. It should have been held steady by either the output bearing on the rear housing in a 2wd or it gets held steady by the input on the T-case in a 4wd. I have NEVER seen a 4l80 32 spline gear strip like...

    4l80e rebuild gone wrong...

You either have a trashed transfer case or rear end. If you are hearing things spinning and it is grinding going into park... the transmission is going into gear and spinning the output shaft. I would block the wheels and set the parking brake, then put it into gear. Get out of the truck and see...

    4l80e rebuild gone wrong...

The highlighted part of his statement that I was referring to specifically says that he get the pawl bouncing after putting it in drive and then returning it to park. That to me sounds like what you get when you are messing with 4wd and put the transfer case in nuetral with the trans in drive...

    4l80e rebuild gone wrong...

The bold part makes me question what you got going on here. Are you saying you can hear stuff spinning but the truck won't move? And that you went to put it back in park and you had the grinding bounce from the park pawl? That sounds an awful lot like you have the T-case in neutral. The only way...

    Transmission cooler ideas

Long makes the coolers for B&M. B&M doesn't actually make any coolers themselves, they just take the Long ones and rebrand/jack up the price.

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

My truck also took exactly 3-12oz cans of 134 to be right on the correct pressures.

R12 to 134. Whats really needed to do this swap for a great working system. All parts needed?

The only components I changed were the seals in the compressor, all O-rings, orifice tube, and the pressure switch. I still have the original condenser, A6 compressor, and evaporator. I tore the A6 apart and used a ~$25 rebuild kit to swap everything out including a modern double lip seal...

Auto A/C vacuum pump. lots of CFM or Less CFM whats best?? A/C tech's please help.

CFM rating has nothing to do with how much vacuum you can pull with elevation. Vacuum is read as a gauge pressure relative to atmospheric pressure. Atmospheric pressure is ~29.92 inhg at sea level and drops ~1inhg per 1000ft in elevation above sea level. The CFM rating tells you how fast the...

Regearing Advice... What do I need?

It's gonna be a hard grind to do both in a weekend. You will definitely want a crush sleeve eliminator kit for the 14 bolt. Trying to crush down a sleeve is a monster of a job on a 14 bolt. You need at least a 20 ton press or be able to put many hundreds of lb-ft of torque on it just to start...

    USA made sliding window assembly?

That's what I have on my 1980. Pulled from the junkyard out of an 84 and fit right into my 80 pickup. Its roughly equivalent to a 35% tint and is not a film. I had a local company tint my front windows to match and they are almost an exact tint match.

What have you done to your square lately??

My 1980 K25 pickup has the original everything in it including the compressor, condenser, and evaporator and it is ice cold almost all the time. I do have the low speed on the electric fans set to come on when the compressor is engaged though. The only things I changed when I converted to R134...
