How to properly remove a cab without damage

I’d remove the doors, I use a Doug fir 4x4 through the door openings and straps on that, seems to do well without damaging the cab. I’ve found the balancing point of a bare cab is right where the roof meets the a pillars. So having the seat in would help counter balance things. I think I...

How to properly remove a cab without damage

Is your two post lift setup yet? If the cab/clip is solid at the rockers that would be a good way to do it. If its all complete. @Old Guy Bill used his 2 post with some chains to lift the cab on his 78, another slick way. Might balance funny with the front clip. And I think that method requires...

    Hydroboost not working

Also check the temperature of the hoses, in operation they will of course heat up. If the pressure lines get really hot, really quick, that suggests there might be a blockage of some kind restricting flow. Easy enough to check/verify.

    Hydroboost not working

When I did my Dodge (different, yes, but overall very similar), it was quite a bit of wheel turning and pedal pumping. Is it just the hydro boost that is poor or do you have poor power steering too?

Can't get rid of play in the steering

One from a 70s truck might be an "upgrade" as it's a solid piece, unlike the 81+ ones that have all those holes in them for weight reduction. Not sure if it would actually make it stiffer/stronger or not

    Rear Brakes Locking Up

Is that what the difference is (besides materials) between the cast iron and aluminum/plastic masters? Learn something new everyday.

What is this part called, and are they available anywhere?

Not reproduced as far as I know, use some 16 gauge sheet steel cut/radius/bend to suit.

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

Very cool! While I very much like “normal” shops and buildings, I also really like “alternative” options for building use.

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

@PrairieDrifter you may have mentioned it elsewhere, but what was your shop building originally? Looks like a pretty cool building.

    Door Seam

That’s pretty much how they are. Here is a picture of the doors I got for my 79, they are OG doors from an 85 and look similar:

    Rear Brakes Locking Up

No load sensing valve on a 1/2 ton (that I’ve ever seen). But I would concur, for op to check the rear brakes out, make sure they are properly adjusted. If they [the rears] are too far out of adjustment, they will bleed ok, but the pedal will feel off. Stuff like late engagement and not an...

Good Ospho (phosphoric) and epoxy Test

When I did my frame, I had it media blasted, the chassis black is DTM/DTR, I cleaned and sprayed it, no primer. I believe it will hold up fine as is, if I were to do it again right now, or if/when I do my 76, it’ll likely get epoxy first, then top coated. Or 5311 would be just fine too. Really...

Good Ospho (phosphoric) and epoxy Test

For Tamco products, the reason they advise against using converters is the likelihood of the product not being neutralized or removed completely before applying product on top of it. Think of something like a door that has a hemmed edge, phosphoric acid can easily creep into that hemmed area...

    Rear Brakes Locking Up

Taylor beat me to it- and now Derek- Master cylinders are not all the same, some have the large chamber in the front, some rear, some equal sized. The large chamber should feed the front discs, as they use more volume for actuation/wear. The small chamber should feed the rear drums, as the...

What have you done to your square lately??

@DoubleDingo is the 81 a tilt column or not? My 76 (tilt column) finally broke the pivot on the rack, it had been half broken for a couple years, I’d have to tilt the column down to get it to start, then it finally gave up completely. If you remove the switch you can use a small Allen key or...

I think for a non lockup th350 temps (within reason) are going to be what they are going to be. Now with that said an aux cooler would not be a bad idea either.

Anyone use HOK base coat? How do you like it?

I've not used HOK products, but one thing to look at when shopping and comparing pricing for base coat is if it is unreduced or reduced (rts), and if unreduced, what the mix ratio is. A quick look at the HOK you mention is 2:1 (2parts base, 1 part reducer), so with one gallon you get 1.5 gallon...
