1978 Sierra Grande seat pics needed

77 Silverado = factory folding seat. OP I’d suggest GM Heritage archive. You can look at all the Chevy brochures and each model year has pics of interior options.

1986 K10 Cutting off When Put in Gear

^wouldnt a bad nss be no crank, not no run? Sounds like a short. I’d be looking in the steering column. Need more diagnostics from the owner though.

    Boat speakers in c10?

There’s nothing “special” about marine rated speakers aside from being more resistant to moisture and the elements. And having too much amp is not a problem unless you use too much of the power compared to speaker rating. But that’s just tuning and how you hook it up.

What new tools have you got lately?

One of these years I’ll graduate to decent tool boxes….lol. Probably after I’m too old to work on chit. My newest best toolbox is a mid 90s Craftsman ball bearing drawers top chest I bought brand new in college to consolidate and organize enough tools to work on most chit out of a college...

    How about a NEW squarebody?

Yeah that pic with the red duallies and the obs trucks and S10 is a killer line up. I’m sure someone would buy that Gutlass Ciera stuffed in there too! Hey that pic with the old 60s car hauler and the round eye truck front and center has your fave more door Caprice on it too!

Lotsa nice squares on CL out here right now!

    Aluminum side molding removal

So if you pop the clips front and rear will the trim slide off the stick on clips or does the sticky foam need to be cut? Like with fishing line. I don’t know but I need to replace the trim on the 77 one of these days and I’d like to save the good pieces that are left.

    1985 SWB 2WD Rear Axle

Assuming you are reusing the u bolts and plates then yes because yiu already have the relocated spring perches. On average, yes it will be about a 6” drop. Depends on how many leafs you have now. More =more drop. # of leafs doesn’t factor in to height once you flip the axle though. You’re...

    fuel venting

My 77 has 3 port sending units but 1 is capped off and the tank switching valve is an aftermarket 1 wire valve and one aftermarket tank. It was originally a single tank truck. Couldn’t say whether the fuel pump has a return line or not don’t recall. But the engine and sending units are not...

What have you done to your square lately??

I just went back and looked. Yes they’re 100% under the cab. Longbeds are basically centered on the gap between the cab and bed. Of little consequence though. Still gotta fish around up there under the cab/bed with the tank dropped down a little. Good point though.

Brake upgrade using GM parts bin...

As always, @bucket advice is spot on. I’ll add, after driving only newer vehicles for the last 30ish years and now getting a couple old squarebodys in the last few years and having a 4 wheel drum old CJ5, All with properly operating OE brake systems, I think the only appreciable upgrade would...

    Replacing Long bed

I would search the classifieds, CL, FB etc and if you find a good bed nearby, don’t hesitate. Original beds have 2 things against them. First more beds got/get beat up from normal use back in the day than other panels. Second, you’re not out of the rust belt or not far enough out of it to not...

What have you done to your square lately??

Ha I actually was serious. Obviously unrestored but looks like great condition from the pics. If the tank bracket bolts came out without much fanfare then I’d call that clean. Regarding replacing the rock guards or not, Trapping debris that falls between the bed and cab is the primary culprit...

Don’t put the sawzall away just yet… Side pipes solve all those problems. Just sayin

What have you done to your square lately??

A cat a what? Fck, 5 min with a sawzall including putting anew blade in it will provide access to the bolts! Plus it looks like it’s rubbing in the frame. It needs to go. lol! You’re truck is super clean underneath btw.

    Transmission or rear diff?

There’s not a differnet 4 speed that is going to get you OD except like an A833 which you don’t want in a 1 ton. You want a 5 or 6 speed if doing a manual trans. NV4500 is the common swap. Or gear it up. Trans and keep the deep gears is preferable but a little more involved and more $ if...

There are a lot of options for sure. And yes, fortunately in our area of the country you can find a fair number of very good condition semi low miles 01-06 SUVs. It’ll still be a search for sure. Maybe a week maybe a couple months. If a good one pops up don’t hesitate or it will be gone. The...

Truth! Pickups of any flavor and age generally have a far higher resale than comparable suvs. To the OP, throw Toyota Sequoias and Nissan Armadas in the mix as well. Of course sequoias will grab anywhere from 25-50% more than most other snack wagons. But you never know. Armadas otoh, IMO...

^To your point, of course gmt400s are simpler. And in general simpler = easier and less costly to maintain and repair. But I’ve not experienced anywhere near the frustration you have, although most of what you stated sounds like quirky issues with defined fixes that aren’t horrible and/or...
