something isnt right with the ignition key

No you don't have to replace the steel rod. Unless it's bent out of its normal shape. (Be aware it actually does have bends in it to accommodate to the design of the column) another words just unbolt the old switch and bolt up the new on and test to make sure everything works right and bam your...

something isnt right with the ignition key

It's your ignition switch. It is connected to your ignition key cylinder via steel rod. Last time I bought an ignition switch it was like 17 dollars for a quality one. It's bolted to the steering column on the top side. PITA to get to with big hands unless you unbolt the column from the dash...

    305 header help

I have a set of Hooker competition headers in my suburban, full length long tube. They have the 2 1/2" collectors. Great low end torque which is what you really need in big and heavy vehicles. I believe the primaries are 1 5/8". They had absolutely no fitment issues. But they do go in from the...

    $500 lwb good deal?

79K10, 89suburban did an amazing picture by picture on tearing down the steering column and the first couple pages are of how to get to the ignition cylinder. It is in the Suspention and steering tab. It's a Sticky at the top of the threads. Like I said very very good write up.

    Fuse blows instantly.

Thank you guys!!! I found the problem. The lovely previous owner had used a fold over splice connector thing on the cigarette lighter and for some reason cut whatever they wired in off, well long story short it was shorting out. No pun intended. Lol

    Fuse blows instantly.

Ok I'll check those on me next couple days off. What else do you think it could be? I don't want to strip out my whole interior on my suburban to find it. That's a lot of work. Lol. I'm hoping it's something stupid and easy to spot

    Fuse blows instantly.

Hey guys I'm at a loss with this truck. I'm to the point of setting fire to it. It's a 88 gmc suburban 1500. The horn and dome light fuse keeps popping. It's supposed to have a 20a fuse in it. I tried a 30a and it still pops it without any hesitation, I can't even get the fuse in completely...

    $500 lwb good deal?

Well bought a 1986 chevy LWB 1/2 ton truck about a month ago. Was going to sell it to a family member for what I paid (original intention) but he backed out due to other reasons. I'm technically 3rd owner the second owner was the grandson that did absolutely nothing to it. The interior is pretty...

Remove Catalytic Converter for Better MPG?

On my 88 burban I got two to three miles more a gallon better. But I also did true duals with flowmaster 40 series 2 1/2" all the way back. So it wasn't restrictive to my 350.

    Ash tray spring source

Junk yard would be your best bet. I would have just went there for them so you didn't have to pay shipping and handling on something the size of a paper clip. To be honest with you they probably wouldn't even of make you pay for the springs.

    cs 130 alt upgrade

So from what I read online is the CS-130 alt and CS-144 use the same harness adapter. Is that true?

    cs 130 alt upgrade

Sweet. I'm looking into getting a new alternator as the bearings are squeeking in mine. How hard is it to wire up in a 88 suburban?
  15. 72chevy2door

    cs 130 alt upgrade

So the CS-144 is better over all?
  16. 72chevy2door

    cs 130 alt upgrade

So what is the difference in the cs130 alternator and the cs144 alternator? Which is better to have and are they both wired up the same way, such as installing them.

    Beauty Rings and BFG ATs??

I have the rallye wheels that used to be on the classic camaros and corvettes on my suburban with 3" beauty rings and the bfgoodrich at's have that "rim guard" on it and would cause my rings to go rolling down the highway. Before those tires they never did it.

    Largest tire in Suburban?

I was only teasing. I know all tires have an overall size not depending on rim size. I'm still curious if 32" tires will clear on 3/4 ton suburbans
  19. 72chevy2door

    Largest tire in Suburban?

Hmmm. But the rim size shouldn't matter because a 33" tall tire is still an 33" tall tire regardless or rim size right? Or am I just missing the point. Lol

    Largest tire in Suburban?

Maybe for 3/4 ton. I'm pretty sure the 1/2 tons had the 31in tires as a option as people have said before. Hell I ain't even sure anymore lol

    Largest tire in Suburban?

    Largest tire in Suburban?

Thanks guys for the responses. So the tires really shouldn't be any wider than 10 inches then. So I should be able to do 32x10.50xr16 and it clear stock ride height on a 3/4 ton 2wd suburban right?
