Ok I figured as much. The transmission is completely out so I have all the room to get the gun square up on the bolt. The bolts have been soaking in pb blaster all night so I may try one more trick before I drive 40mins round trip to get my air compressor. But I do have all week since my plant...- RangRayy

Flex plate help
Freaking me out here not wanting to use an impact. Set to reverse? On the gun or the way the threads are on the bolts? I assumed these were standard lefty loosey righty tighty bolts.- RangRayy

Well what would make the head break off? Rust? I hit them with we-40 and PB blaster as well so it'll be well soaked. Well this project was supposed to be a weekend project and it's been three weeks....lol- RangRayy

Thanks I just found out about that tool on google. I also dug deeper found out on the 87 efi motors these flexplate bolts went directly into the crankcase and they put sealer on them to prevent leaks. So they're on there pretty good. So sealer must go back on to prevent leaks. FYI to people...- RangRayy

Not sure if this is the right place for posting but..... I have my trans out and motor still in the truck. Trying to replace the flex plate bc teeth are missing. Problem is... As I go to loosen the FP bolts it turns and turns the crank. I tried a breaker bar no avail, even tried a breaker bar...- RangRayy

Broken detent cable
You are onto something. I was looking up for a 1980 since 1987 didn't have an option for th350. Which the 80s th350's are the "C" models. I searched for a 1971 with a th350 and it brought up part number ca1952 which in the picture matches what I broke. So I will call and order one tomorrow...- RangRayy

So I was in the process of replacing my flexplate and starter and to do so as many know is to pull the transmission or pull the motor. I had everything unhooked and unbolted or I thought... ???? Well I traded a 364ci Nailhead for it. Paid 250 for the motor so I figured it was a good deal. On the drivers side I could get at it through the LCA opening but on the pass side the angle isn't right. Not sure if it's the suspension sagging or what but I tried every possible way even...- RangRayy

On the driver side I went up through where the LCA meets the sub frame. Just enough room between there and have the ratchet with extension. The ratchet was in the spring though.
