    Stupid valve cover gaskets

Yup, valve covers are new and I made sure not to tighten too much. I also have the Fel Pro spreaders installed. I double checked that the head surface was smooth as well. I guess I'll have to check again.

    Stupid valve cover gaskets

So I'm getting pretty frustrated with a leak from my passenger side valve covers. I picked up a Fel Pro Permadry gasket set and put it on this morning hoping to stop this f'ing leak. Get everything on and snugged down, drive to work, and it's still coming out the lower back corner. A pretty good...

    Won't start!!!!!

I think that I can confirm it is the starter/solenoid. This morning when I tried to crank it, I heard something that sounded like a motor working, but the actual starter didn't engage. Worked on the second try. Hoping that this is the problem.

    Won't start!!!!!

Thanks all for the help. I discovered that I have a serious draw from something (probably cause it's an old truck). Tested the battery with everything off and it was at 74% charge at 12.78 volts. With the engine running the voltage was at 14.1 so i know that my alternator is working fine. Turned...

    Won't start!!!!!

I suppose it could be, although there was a new one on the new column that I got. Anything is possible however. Could the starter be going bad?

    Won't start!!!!!

So I went out to diagnose my problem. All the connections at the starter are good and tight. Wires look good and aren't melted. Battery, alt, and ground wires are all good and tight. Put the key in and it fired right up. F'ing weird. Something to note though is that my battery voltage with...

    Won't start!!!!!

I grabbed a volt meter and will check those first. Battery and cables are all new as well. I know the ground is tight since I just tightened it last night because I had to adjust my steering wheel and didn't want to keep hearing the horn blare. I have power elsewhere in the truck which makes...

    Won't start!!!!!

I'm about ready to sell this damn truck I'm so frustrated. If it's not one thing it's another. Just when I think I've got her operating well, something else happens. Today I fire her up to warm everything up. Fires on the first crank. Gotta stop and get gas. Put the key in to crank and...

    LMC windshield weatherstripping

Correct me, but they are the "self locking" type right? Called a couple glass shops in town and both mentioned that they are a major pain in the arse to install.

    LMC windshield weatherstripping

Anyone used the windshield weatherstripping from LMC? I have one and when I went to pick up my truck from the glass shop, he didn't want to use it because "it would take too long to install" so he installed a used OEM seal from a donor truck. Well now it leaks like crazy and my carpet is very...

    Ignition linkage in column

Yeah the switch moves through the whole range of motion, but doesn't engage the starter whatsoever. I used to have to "play" with it to get it catch. I can move the column ignition that down further on the column, up and down and it will move the keyed switch so I don't think it's the rod...

    Ignition linkage in column

This morning my truck wouldn't start. In the past weeks it would take me a few times to get the starter to actually engage, and sometimes, like this morning, nothing would happen even with the key turned all the way over. I have power throughout the truck, however the key wouldn't engage the...

    Blower fan not working

Got mine to work, although when on the highest setting it stops working. Maybe the relay or resistor. Good to have heat again.

Bad luck with Fel Pro 1 piece pan gasket

That is exactly the problem. I had the 34510 and after comparing it to the 4 piece set, it was much thicker. Oil just poured out there. Got it sealed up now though thankfully. Too bad it took 3 tries to get it right.

    Need better mileage

Forgive my ignorance on this matter and thank you for the help. I'm still learning a lot about motors and such. To answer your questions: Carb is an Edelbrock 1405. Tranny is a 700r4 and not sure of the gearing, but it is not set up for performance. Tires are stock 15's so 235/75/15 I think...

    Need better mileage

So I finally got my first tank emptied today and filled it up. Figured out that I got a whopping 8.6 MPG. That sucks $hit. I have a 350 that has a Edelbrock performer intake. Been told that heads play the biggest part of mileage. Any recommendations for some heads that will help me with...

    On door weather stripping

Any chance you can take some pictures of your seals? Mine look a little different than the ones Chengy posted. Do yours go around the whole door? Mine don't, basically just the top half.

    Super hard starting motor

Thanks Rich. I discovered that all the oil is coming out of the back of the passenger side valve cover. Driver side is good, but the pouring out the pass side for some reason. I'll try to tackle it today and see what happens.

    Valve cover bolts

Gotcha, thank you. Not sure if I can use the T-handle bolts because it would hit my AC compressor. Would you use them on all 8 holes?

    Valve cover bolts

Should the blue fel-pro gaskets go on dry? Are they reusable?

    Valve cover bolts

In my pursuit to figure out my annoying an persistent oil leak, I changed out my valve cover gaskets. Noticed that my valve covers where bent where the bolts go and got some new valve covers. I installed them and tightened them down. Today I now have a leak that is bigger than before...

    Super hard starting motor

Well it was the choke and the rubber plunger on the accelerator pump had gotten folded over somehow. So I replaced it and now she starts on the first rip and doesn't stall anymore when stopped. Now I could just find out where my oil leak is coming from I'd be all good. I changed my valve cover...

    Super hard starting motor

It's a manual choke. I'll check the position of the rod and move to the shortest if it isn't correct. One thing to note is that the hesitation is worse when the truck is in Drive rather than Park. Thanks for the help.

    Super hard starting motor

Thanks Rich. No smoke when starting which is good. The carb was recently rebuilt so the accel pump is new, but could certainly be improperly adjusted for sure. Maybe it went bad already too who knows. It is an Edelbrock.

    Super hard starting motor

That is a great question. I'll have to check.
