    Vacuum increases after initial warmup

Thanks again chengny, that's some good advice about junk yards. I do need a few things like the cruise control rod for the servo, I guess it's not available anymore new. That's pretty cool you make a day of it beer included, lol. I don't have disposable income like I used to, you would think the...

    Vacuum increases after initial warmup

Hi chengny, thanks again, I know that was very time consuming. I must have a dual capacity pump carburetor because the mixture control solenoid is a grayish color and there is no TPS on it. I haven't checked the valve lash but I did replace the cap, rotor and wires on the truck a few weeks ago...

    77' Silverado value

    Front tires skidding

Thanks again chengny, I think you were right about the problem being with the rear brakes. I noticed a crushed rear brake line on the passenger side and replaced that thinking the wheel cylinder wasn't getting enough fluid. That didn't change anything, today I pulled off the brake drum on that...

    Vacuum increases after initial warmup

Thanks chengny for that thorough explanation, I appreciate you taking the time. You are correct that the idle does increase a little when it fully warms up. I just happened to have a vacuum gauge on it at the time and noticed the vacuum rose to where it should be. I was going to adjust the...

    Vacuum increases after initial warmup

Thanks for the reply, the needle is not erratic when cold or warmed up it holds steady. I'm not running an EGR valve, all the emission parts were removed by the PO, I wish he would have left it alone. I'm not in Cali, you probably saw my login name joecal and thought that, lol. I'm in Illinois...

    Vacuum increases after initial warmup

Hello, I've noticed the 305ci engine in my 86 after warming up say 10 minutes or so while idling before driving it seems to run smoother and the vacuum increases to about 19 and holds steady there which is fine. I have the timing set at 10-12 degrees btdc which it seems to run good there. I...

    Carburetor issues

Thanks for the replies, that's what I was thinking. I want to stay with a Quadrajet carburetor so I'll have to buy one without the electronics. (Update) I spoke to a company that rebuilds carburetors and he said the could block off that metering solenoid so it's non-functioning. So I'll probably...

    Carburetor issues

I have a 86 C10 with a 305 and a stock 4 barrel Quadrajet and the PO removed all of the emission parts. I'm getting terrible gas mileage and it's not running right. I was going to rebuild the carb but realized it's probably the electronic metering solenoid on the carb that's not working because...

    Bearing fell apart

Well hopefully you found the part you needed. I need to take my column apart someday too. I was replacing the turn signal stalk and broke the wiring from the original one off inside the column. I have the wiring for the new one running on the outside of the column for now. I watched a video too...

    Lug nut replacements

Thanks, I almost bought a set of chrome ones pretty cheap on ebay, I thought they might rust but maybe not. I have chrome ones on my boat trailer and they're holding up pretty well so far. I ended up buying a set of stainless covered ones on ebay that were for a GM product, they're a little...

    Need ideas for painting stepside

I don't think two-tone would look right on a stepside, some graphics or decals like the one above looks decent. I have a 86 stepside, that needs paint, but I like the original color Indian bronze metallic. If I have mine painted I'm staying with the original color.

    Front tires skidding

Thanks for the information, I haven't looked at the rear brakes yet. I've only had the truck a few months so I'm still trying to sort things out when the weather allows. I did notice the brake fluid looks very old or dirty, I definitely need to change that, maybe there's water in there. Thanks...

    Front tires skidding

My front tires seem to be skidding when I brake a little harder on dry surfaces and more so on wet pavement. I thought maybe the front pads weren't releasing as they should, maybe they're not sliding on the pins. I checked the air pressure and that's okay. The tires look brand new but I noticed...

    Lug nut replacements

I was removing a front tire to check the brake pads and had a hard time getting a few of the lug nuts off. They have a stainless steel cover over them that look nice but the lug wrench didn't seem to fit on them all the way. I ended up ruining the cover on a few of them. I'm glad I was taking...

Swapping Rear Solid Glass for Sliding Glass

The step side sounds nice, I just bought an 86 step side a few months ago that needs a little work. I know they're getting pretty rare and hard to find in decent shape. You should post some pics of it or you'll probably place it in the for sale ads section. By the time mine's finished I'll...

    Bench seat adjustment

That's good to hear, because your cab should be the same size as mine. I'll have to look at how much room I have behind the seat when it's all the way back. My truck has the stock bench seat, so I don't think it's been tampered with.
