    Cutting Front Coils

When cutting a coil from your front springs, are most of you guys "setting" the spring so it sits flat in the spring pocket? I happened to see a video where after the guy cut the springs he used a torch to heat a section of the spring so he could bend it and it would end up with more contact...

    Quickest/fastest squarebody

Well, 9.82 @ 142 is book'n for a street legal car/truck. Believe me, I had a 3500 lb. 79 Malibu (Chevy ZZ572 crate engine, naturally aspirated) that was also street driven. It ran similar times (9.82@138) but was about 1000 lbs lighter! You be pushing some HP to get that tank in the 9's and...

    Bug Deflectors

OK, I just recieved a bug deflector from JC Whitney and it looks like it was made to fit every pick up on the planet, regardless of make or model. Who has a deflector they are happy with and can you please post good photos? I'd like the next one that shows up on my door step to be a keeper...

    Adjusting Overdrive Shift Point

I'll probably need more infer some someone to help me, but at least this will get the ball rolling……… My '84 truck originally came with a TH350 and a PO put in a 4speed auto. I haven't had the truck long and I would actually have to crawl under the truck and ID the tranny to tell you which...

Remove Catalytic Converter for Better MPG?

I'll tell you what, I will take a dead stock 305 with factory style single exhaust and remove just the catalytic converter and no other changes. I'll figure this out and the we will all know! I can't get to it for a few weeks, but in the mean time I can get a solid average on the present...

Remove Catalytic Converter for Better MPG?

So I just found out that in NC I do not have to have an emmisions inspection for my completely stock 84 (305 v8, single exhaust) truck. Since I'd like to squeek every bit of mileage I can out of a gallon of gas I was thinking about removing the catalytic converter so it can breath easier...

Lowering Leaf Springs. Can't Find Them

OK, after more searching, I did find a place called Western Chassis that makes lowering leaf springs. Anybody heard good or bad about them?

Lowering Leaf Springs. Can't Find Them

So I've found places that make lowering leaf springs, but surprisingly they don't make them for our trucks. I find this really hard to believe given their popularity and the fact that GM made the same chassis from 73-87. I will try calling some phone numbers after the holiday, but when I use...

    Flip Kit w/ Lift Shackles

Are you saying a shackle/hanger combo will not require cutting of the brace that runs under the bed? On a short bed truck? I know I'm new to these trucks, but everything I've read to date says cutting of the cross member is required.

Love My New Square Stepper in NC

When the bed was painted they covered everything. Wood, metal strips, fasteners, etc. It's like they went to Maaco. I'd love to lower it 2 or 3 inches, but am having trouble deciding on how to do it. I don't want to cut bed supports for shackles, a flip kit is too much drop, etc. I'm...

Love My New Square Stepper in NC

Here's my new addition. It's an '84 2wd that turned 50k miles on the way home. It was an estate truck and the old guys toy from day 1. I'm not a huge fan of the toneau cover and pin striping he added right after taking delivery, but I guess it's period correct and is part of the trucks...

    Flip Kit w/ Lift Shackles

Ughh............ Well, I'm glad to get such informative responses, but I can't say I like what I hear. Sounds like for me personally, since I'm dead bent on not cutting my truck, drop leaf springs are the way to go. Now I have to decide how bad I want this because the drop springs I have...

    Flip Kit w/ Lift Shackles

I want to lower my truck a little now, and maybe a lot later. I also did not want to cut the bed support on my 84 short bed stepside C10, which is why I am not just installing a set of drop shackles at this time. Current plan is to install a flip kit, which would give me too much drop, and...
