Best method for adding a fuse box/accessories?

Hi everyone, I want to add some accessories to the interior of my 88 Burb. There will be at least one USB charger, perhaps two, a CB, 2M amateur radio transceiver, and perhaps more in the future. I don't think I'll ever use more than 10A at once. What I'm thinking is to run a set of 12ga wires...

    292 I6 Suburban?

Yep my thoughts exactly. I'm thinking that a 292, 465/208 to 3.73's with 35's would be plenty of gearing. Those straight sixes can lope down to pretty low RPM's and still have enough torque to get the job done. I had an old FJ55 with similar gearing and it could crawl just fine down to about 300...

    292 I6 Suburban?

    I don't know- I have never seen one either. But, It's a thought I have had to build a suburban with a 292, SM465,and 208 or 205.

    292 I6 Suburban?

Hi All, I'm curious if anybody has any first hand experience with a I6 292 powered 4wd Suburban. I have a thing for straight 6 engines, so I'm curious about things like mileage, drivability etc.

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Hey everyone, I'm really sorry- I'll try very hard to be more offended next time. Really. SO OFFEnded. nah. can't keep up the intensity. Don't care :p :p I did get the repair 100% done with some clamps to hold the heater hose in place. Made a video about it on my YT channel that I am doing for...

Suburban Barn Door Weather stripping Replacement Questions

Okay, I tried the hardware store stuff and it was a total fail. I got stuff that was just too small for it, and I'll be honest- I'm a dummy for buying the wrong stuff! But, I don't know the right stuff exists outside of the OEM style. I'm going to order new stuff and try again. If anybody wants...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Oh if you think I was offended or something, you're talking to the wrong guy. I can take the heat and dish it out on occasion. Right now I'm working toward a bunch of other fixes, but an engine bay detail is now on my list. It also has me wondering if I could do something to rejuvenate the paint...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Thanks @82sbshortbed that was helpful. I watched the video, looks like I have another project to get done :) Also gives me an excuse to buy a shop vac or an air compressor. A friend just tossed one too... and I turned it down because it didn't get high pressure. I wish I'd taken it!

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Yeah it's a bit crusty, innit? That's alright- I have spent very little time under the hood of this truck. I'm not the one who put the motor in or anything, I just bought it as-is. It definitely needs a good cleaning. At some point a rodent left little bits of himself on the intake manifold...

Suburban Barn Door Weather stripping Replacement Questions

Hi All, The barn doors leak- and it rains, a lot! To solve this I need to put in new weather stripping. Being budget conscious, is something like 1/2" self adhesive stuff at the hardware store good enough for this? Or do I need to spend the $100 or so on the reproduction stuff? Thanks for any...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Yep I'm going to isolate that with, if nothing else, some of that same type of loom used elsewhere on the hose. I'll look at the hardware store for other ideas as you mentioned. Thanks for bringing it up :)

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Got it all back together today. I ended up not putting in a restrictor as it really doesn't look like there was one in there to begin with, although I suppose it is possible that the hard line itself restricted flow. Now I'm paranoid lol. I routed the hose through some of the loom that the old...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

One hour later: VICTORY! I bummed around my shop looking for a way to make this happen without further delay. The answer: Vice grips and a hacksaw blade became a human powered sawzall! I got the hose off, and then the fitting came right out. But, this is not a quick disconnect fitting :disgust...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

@Raider L it's interesting you brought that up. I am having one heck of a time getting that part off. I was going to cut the hose off but I can't really get anything in there to cut it off. A 4.5" angle grinder is too big, and I don't have a sawzall or I'd definitely use it. I am thinking I need...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Perhaps I should have got that instead. By the time I saw your comment, my daughter who's out doing shopping had already left the store. Hopefully the Liquid Wrench does the job so I don't have to break out the "cut the stupid thing out" tools.

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Thanks! I did just check and it's definitely 5/8" hose. So, 1/2" NPT to 5/8" hose, easy peasy. Now to just the old one off without breaking it. Got some liquid wrench and am going to start spraying it every few hours with that.

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

Thank you, that's what I was looking to know. My understanding is that it's 1/2" NPT threads and just a standard hose nipple will work with the same size heater hose as the rest of the truck? You can tell I'm new at this aspect of working on my truck. And I'm a serious over-thinker. Thanks a...

Any tips for replacing the heater hose quick disconnect?

I found a leak on my TBI 350 that's in my 88 Suburban. It's the quick disconnect next to the distributor: Apparently these are prone to breaking off upon removal, which looks like a pain to fix! Any suggestions for replacing this? Should I replace it with the same part? I'm going to replace...

88 4wd Suburban 1/2T. Front brake issues, time to rebuid- or upgrade?

After having driven it a bit, I realized that the problems were in my head, and it's stopping better than ever. It's always had a lot of travel. I bought a new master cylinder to install, and when I replace the rear brakes and brake line, I'll also replace the master cylinder. For now it's done...

88 4wd Suburban 1/2T. Front brake issues, time to rebuid- or upgrade?

Status update: Got the parts all in. New rotors, repacked the hubs completely (the grease WAS burned), new rubber hoses, pads and calipers. I wasn't able to say I had it bled until I saw a tip to put grease on the brake bleeder threads. That stopped air from getting in around the threads, and...

Cool, thanks guys. I appreciate it. I'm so far out of the loop on this stuff it's not funny.

88 4wd Suburban 1/2T. Front brake issues, time to rebuid- or upgrade?

I'm about to order all the parts needed. I'm getting new rotors (same price as having them turned locally!) and calipers, pads, hoses. Going to repack the bearings while I'm in there. If any one has suggestions for the best pads, I'd be grateful.

350 Tune-up "kit" w/ Cap, rotor, wires: Good deal?

Hello, I apologize if this has been covered to death. I was cruising RockAuto for some parts for a front end brake rebuild , and decided to look into a tune up. I've had my 88 Suburban for about 7 years and haven't replaced the cap, rotor, wires, or plugs. Mind you, it's not seen but 20 or 30k...
