No mechanical linkage to wear out... Z bar parts are stupid expensive to buy. I'll see if I can remember to get some pics of my clutch linkage in my 80. Every single piece is shot.
With the hydraulic setup, all of those exterior moving parts are eliminated. No greasy connections to attract...
i've had several guys ask me about swapping a hydro clutch into an automatic truck, or a truck with a factory mechanical clutch. so i thought that this post could be useful in the future.
for starters, you need the proper 85-87 hydraulic belhousing. the hydraulic belhousing from an IFS truck...
The switch Abe the valve should run you 70-100, and it'll be fixed. Running off off both tanks at the same time won't do anything but increase the amount of unusable fuel in the tanks.
Word. Replace all of the hub seals, inspect the wheel bearings, turn the drums and rotors, and replace the brake linings and hardware. Also inspect the balljoints and axle joints. Get the axles ready to roll before you cut the ubolts off of your old axle. Be aware that you will need new...
Mine isn't a father son truck, nor its it really a grandfather grandson truck. Mine was my grandpa's from about 2000 until he passed away in 2003. We did a kit of work to it in that time. New fenders, doors, he found someone to put floors in it cheap (and it shows), and we put the bed from my...
Also, the 6 lug 1/2 ton "Z71" 14 bolt is not a Z71 deal, it's option code F44 (heavy duty chassis). This option is NOT a part of the Z71 package. The Z71 package is shocks, skid plates, and bedside stickers.
However, I have seen some weird combinations, such as F44 trucks with the 10 bolt and...
88+ the 7200# gvwr 2500s got a 14SF, and the 8600#gvwr got an 8 lug 14SF, with a FF as an option. also keep in mind that the 2wd 6 lug 14SF is about 3"narrower. IIRC, the gvwr thing is the same on squares and the SF or FF rear axle.
Corporate 10 bolt front axle, 3.73 gears, new Warn premium lockouts 3 years ago, has been inside since late 2010. Asking $200
8 lug 14 bolt semi floater from an 87 3/4 ton 2wd. 4.10 gears, open diff. Asking 150
The 91 will still be a 700R4, and if it is a square body, would be a great thing to swap the entire unit into your truck. The case is an NP241 either way.
2.76 gears are worthless in a truck. Regearing will probably pick up fuel economy and add power. Take this opportunity to put a good gearset in the rear, and find a matching front with the money you were refunded from the initial repair.
