    Ampmeter connection

@Ellie Niner, That's a excellent explination. That's what I tried to describe above. I'll bet once my amp gauge is hooked up I actually may be able to catch that little glich when I can't start the truck until after I clean the positive post on the battery and then it cranks like nothing...

    Ampmeter connection

@DoubleDingo, Like these? I think these are #12-10. Now, this is that wire I have that I believe is #10. It's the biggest wire I've got.And I think this is #12. You can see it's a lot smaller than the wire above. This is my electrical box. All my connectors on the left down to either #00 ring...

    Ampmeter connection

@Ellie Niner, Oh man! You mean I'm going to have to wire this thing to the starter?? LOL, dang! My truck has always had a small alternator in it. Right now I'm using my rebuilt factory alt. that is supposed to be 53 amps. stamped on the housing from the factory, but it does have a new...

    Ampmeter connection

@Ellie Niner, In the diagram above where it says "junction box" isn't that the fuse box down on the firewall where all the wires come through into the cab? So I should look for a #10 red wire like one of that size that goes to the ignition? So, how does the amp gauge work off of two 12 volt...

    Ampmeter connection

Let's try this again. This is my Autometer gauge and volt gauge. They are not the "Sport Comp" style gauges. At the time Autometer offered a lesser cost set of gauges. And since I had them already I just kept them after installing all "Sport Comp" gauges for the rest of the set. They will...

    Ampmeter connection

This is the Autometer instruction sheet for connecting the amp. gauge. @HotRodPC, The program won't let me load this photo of the instruction sheet so that I can get comment on the correct method to connect the amp gauge. Why? I found the problem.. It was how I was uploading the photo. I...

    Ampmeter connection

I'm connecting my Autometer amp gauge. This gauge has been in the truck for many years and has never been connected correctly before. I have to say I've been very lazy by leaving it unconnected all these many years. I was doing some wiring work and reinstalling my fuel pressure gauge and I...

    dash wiring hassel

I'm going to start a new post for this Amp. meter connection as it might help people understand what the ampmeter does and why would you have one in you truck, and how and why it does what it does. Most people don't have a ampmeter in their vehicle, only a voltmeter. The ampmeter tells you if...

    dash wiring hassel

I have some #10 wire in black but not enough to wire to put it on the Autometer Amp. gauge leg. So I went to the Advance Auto Parts I usually use to look for some #10 wire. Well, they had a ton of different size wire but as big as they had was #12, in Red and Black, a couple of ten foot rolls...

    dash wiring hassel

More pictures. You can see how I just made a little panel for all the light switches. You can see the "piggy backing" a little better in this pic. It was like a light bulb coming on in my head getting this idea because I was going to run individual wires. Then this idea came to me, "Why not...

    dash wiring hassel

Here's some pics of what I've been doing as described in text above. I hadn't taken the pictures of it all yet when I wrote the text yesterday, I wanted to finish it today so I could take my time and show what I needed to show.Atypical of how I had to connect a ground wire to the bulb socket...

    new tool for wire

Here's a new tool I just bought. It's supposed to be for measuring automotive wire but it appears that you'd need to strip the wire before measuring it. I have always tried to look at the wire and guess what size it is. And the automotive wire has a colored covering on it anyway and if you...

    dash wiring hassel

Well, I've put it off long enough so today I pulled the truck up in front of the carport so I'd have all the comforts of home while I was dealing with the little wiring task I had in my truck And it was rewiring all the lights in my Autometer gauges. Why did I have to do that? Because when I...

That's right. I forgot about the accessory bolt holes, or the lack there of. There aren't any. And with your engine you'd need all you could get.

    Oil Pressure Gauge

@Ellie Niner, Now that you've explained that, I realize that the reason why my Autometer Amp gauge doesn't work. The instructions show the gauge needs to be connected to a 12 volt source as close to the positive cable (right to the cable actually) with a #10 wire on one post on the back of the...

    Installing a fuel pressure gauge

Next pictures.Apply mounting plate and put 10-32 lock washers and nuts on the three long screws. Secure with 3/8" socket to just snug. These nuts don't need to be torqued. They are just hand snugged. You can feel it when they are tight enough. And it's finished, ready to go back into the truck.

Anyone Ever replace a Firewall Insulation Pad ??

@Ronno6, Yes, I have. But it wasn't that bad due to having taken everything out of the dash because I was rebuilding the truck. And when it came time to begin the interior back in the firewall pad was the first thing back in. My original one was in great shape so I just reused it. My truck...

    Exhaust help

@Dcsmith1922, @Turbo4whl, I see where you are going with the headers. That's a good question, if a 327 that's never been in a truck, what would you have to order to get it to fit in a truck? Especially a late model 1500 with stuff like a clutch cylinder sticking out. You would absolutely...

    battery post mystery

See, @DoubleDingo has had the problem I started this post with. It's the strangest thing to take the terminal off, clean the terminal and the post, put it back together and it works without a hitch for who knows how long. It might be months and then, like Double said you go back out to the...
