SBC HEI Distributor clicking loudly and timimng won't stay set where i put it.

Like almost everything else, made in (you know where). That price is probably what they are supposed to sell for except at retail from a normal parts store with their profit margin. Personally, I would get one from O'Reilly's for about a hundred bucks (complete) and has a "walk in the store and...

SBC HEI Distributor clicking loudly and timimng won't stay set where i put it.

@aywoschmotors I have seven used dizzys in the shed, checked them all, and it seems like 1/8" to 3/16" is normal. When new, there might be less play in them. Since it looks like mechanical interaction between the rotor and cap, excessive play seems the culprit. I suggest yank it out of the...

That exact problem shut down one of my trucks a few years back, in my case the dizzy shaft slipped at the top, it's basically a friction fit.

Hopefully it's something simple to figure out and he won't have to deal with any spirits or space aliens.

Ayden, More than likely you are looking at a new distributor to fix the issue. I have seen the inner shaft slip on occasion, sometimes it's the roll pin that fails and the gear stays meshed with the cam but the rest of the dizzy is out of whack. Not that anything weird EVER happens in my world...

    Coolant Temp sensor issue

If you have a deep socket to sacrifice, grind/cut a slot on one edge of it almost to the top. It will act just like a flare nut wrench, and grab all six points of the fitting, and allow the wire a space to go and allow rotation.

What have you done to your square lately??

I left mine in the driveway and got a free truck wash. It FINALLY rained here.

If a truck is cheap enough, I can replace the 305 with a real engine

    In bed spare tire mount

Now you got me thinking, I need to make two of them for my trucks, one each of course.

    Axle won’t go back in

Were there any weird noises coming from the rear end before you started doing any work ? It's a rare possibility, but if there's significant wear in the differential, the mating spider gear may be off kilter. If you haven't changed the gear oil, now would be a good time to pull the cover and...

    Flaky CL MF ‘ers….

Most people "conveniently" forget that when they sell a used vehicle, it WILL need some work or repairs, often expensive, and don't allow for that when arriving at their asking price. I have a (maybe bad) habit of when I test drive a vehicle I am looking at buying, I look and listen to...

    Flaky CL MF ‘ers….

The local swap meet is really bad, people expect everything for free, or else it's an expensive item in good shape at a fair price and they want it for next to nothing, with a guarantee, PLUS they ask if I will deliver it, they only live 20 miles out of town. I get so mad at the idiots, I put a...

Electrical MYSTERY? Blower motor runs when key is off

That's the diode, but it's a smart idea while you have it apart to install a new regulator and bearings.

Electrical MYSTERY? Blower motor runs when key is off

Here's an idea, crude but effective. If you have a spare 12 volt single filament bulb laying around, take a chunk of small gauge wire, strip an inch of insulation from both ends. Hold one end of bare wire to the brass part of the bulb with one hand, and hold the lead contact on the bottom to the...

Electrical MYSTERY? Blower motor runs when key is off

A DMM will work as good as a test light in the DC volts mode. If you get a reading, it indicates a loss. Also, I'm curious as to the age of the battery, and is it clean and the battery tray clean ? I have seen batteries lose juice from corrosion and crud being a conductor to ground.

    New member hello all

I think the biggest difference between the 84 and 86 columns will be what transmission the trucks had. The 84 K10 I have originally had a 700R4 so it's a 4 speed column. The 86's I have seen are set up the same for the turn signal, wiper switch, etc but were 3 speed autos. The detents in the...

    Ford Trash Talk Thread lol

Remember, it's all part of the "everything is disposable" world we live in today. And everybody knows we are all rich enough that no matter what we drive, we can afford to go out and buy a new one when it breaks. (Sarcasm intended)

Loss of power going uphill at 50mph

I have experienced a half full fuel filter many times and the engine ran fine, I never could understand why it didn't just fill all the way up. That said, I would first do a fuel pump delivery test, disconnect the fuel line (before the filter) and place in a container and crank the engine. If my...

Odd driveshaft vibration comes and goes

Both the slip yoke and spline do wear, not always at the same rate. There should be absolute miniscule wobble on the slip yoke/spline unit. If the U-joints are all good, and there is no slop in the carrier bearing assembly, and no wear on the yoke at the rear axle, I would take a REAL close look...

Electrical MYSTERY? Blower motor runs when key is off

A bad diode in the alternator can run a battery down overnight, so have that tested to make sure it's working properly. The way I start testing for electrical issues is remove the ground cable at the battery, put a test light between the battery post and the cable end. If the positive lead is...

    Light trouble

Also, if the fuse element looks intact but the contacts are cruddy or corroded, they won't carry power.

    Light trouble

Historically, headlights have been on a priority circuit, independent of the tail lights. If no tail lights is the only issue, start checking all wire connections and verify there is power at the fuse block where the tail lights/instrument lights fuse goes.
