New to the square body scene

Welcome! My Q-Jet was unsalvageable, so I talked to the good folks at Summit, who got me dialed in to the right Edelbrock carb for my '86 C2500 Crew. The nice thing about the Edelbrock carb is that it comes with a booklet that explains carb tuning, and does it so well that I got the thing...

What new tools have you got lately?

I got this kit after the headlight harness I crafted with love and care using a cheap eBay crimper fell apart. It's a Deutsch connector tool kit. I'm spending money hoping it will raise my wiring game lol.

    tailgate/cab band trim repair

I have pulled a number of small dents from body panels with a Pops-A-Dent kit I bought years ago. I can't say how it will work on a small, anodized aluminum piece, but it worked well on painted steel, without harming the paint.

    CA Smog exemption

They have to do something, really. The notion that an old car with worn out smog controls is somehow better for the environment than something with modern fuel management is preposterous. How can a 30-year-old carb with a lot of vacuum leaks ever be better than the worst aftermarket EFI system...

    Overheating 87 TBI

Definitely replace that fan clutch. To the circulation issue, when I changed my freeze plugs, I was surprised by how much trash had filled the lower passages in the block. If the cooling system is in bad shape, like it sounds like yours was, a lot of rust particles can collect around the freeze...

    Meet my Suburban

It has a lot of surface rust, so not entirely rust free, but definitely no rot. I do feel fortunate to live here, even if the politics are unbearable. You got it. I'm in Squaw Valley. I come into Fresno twice a month for supplies. We should have a meet-up. My trans is holding up well, but it's...

    Meet my Suburban

I'm in the Sierra Nevada foothills an hour east of Fresno. The truck is an 89. It's a TBI, but I can't decide if that's better for smog purposes.

    Meet my Suburban

I didn't buy one for years because I didn't think I needed it. Now that I have one, I use it all the time. If I have any advice, get one before you need it. My first project took a lot longer because I had to learn CAD first. I think my first useful prints were some special tools to install...

    Meet my Suburban

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone. The spacer blocks are kind of an experiment. I designed them in OnShape and printed them out on my Ender 3. There are upper and lower pieces that I painted to match my color scheme. I finished them up with some rubber rad mount material I found on...

    Meet my Suburban

Hi everyone. Here is my beater Suburban running wild and free in the hills of Central California. I've been doing a rolling restoration for the last few years. Often, it ends up being more restoration than I planned. I tried to replace a leaking pinion seal without reading the instructions...
