    67 Mile V10

I'm not obsessing over this (!) - but here is the resolution on the window sticker discrepancies: It's a repop. I contacted my favorite window sticker guy to ask his opinion and he admitted it was his work and that it was a mistake. He was in a hurry, etc. and said there were a few...

Tire RPOs are messed up, too. Should be XUZ (front), YUZ (rear - which is shown correctly) and ZUZ (spare). K

Thank you. I don't want to be "that guy" but am genuinely curious. K

I like how you can still see the build sequence number written on it:

Yep - it's nice. Not casting aspersions - but I sincerely wonder why the window sticker says St Louis for a final assembly location when it clearly has a Flint VIN: H = 1987 model year F = Flint Assembly 387275 = serial portion of VIN K

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

May be, but an auto trans is sure nice for hooking up and pulling a trailer. K

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Thank you for posting that up. Looks like it went through just a few days before I started (May 8, 1979 vs June 11, 1979). K

FB Marketplace find near Austin, Texas: 5 aluminum K10 wheels $50

My recollection is that the pace trucks were 1/2 ton. I do not recall those Sarge wheels. Are you sure they made it into production? They don't even have center caps in the photos. I would be inclined to believe it's something that got created for the photo and then went no further. K

    New Process A833 4speed w/ OD MY6 MM7

Yes. Insert shim stock on both sides of the shifter and it should pull right out. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?t=342926&page=11 K

    My-6 new process 3-speed overdrive

That sounds a bit heavy. I was able to lift it out and back in without assistance (not like a TH400, for example, where I use the floor jack). K

FB Marketplace find near Austin, Texas: 5 aluminum K10 wheels $50

I see my work here is done. It was changed as a cost savings. Forged = RPO PH7 Cast = RPO N90 I think the forged wheel will be smoother on the backside, whereas the cast wheel will have more of an "as cast" texture. Any visible parting lines are wider on a forged part than on a cast part...

FB Marketplace find near Austin, Texas: 5 aluminum K10 wheels $50

Not 8 lug (may have been a typo). 5 Lug and 6 lug only. We never did have a nice factory aluminum wheel for 8 lug, particularly dually. I always had to run a set of aftermarket Alcoa wheels on those. K

    Correct - MY6 uses ATF. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showthread.php?p=3662550&highlight=Pig#post3662550 ;) K

How many bolts hold the transmission on and where?

I wonder if there is enough room to drop the flywheel without undoing the trans, after the torque converter is pushed back? K

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

This doesn't help find it - but since you are sentimental: You could contact the GM Heritage Center archive and order up the original invoice for your dad's truck. It would show build timing, selling dealership info, pricing and any applicable discounts, and all the original RPO content. Your...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Almost - All square Blazers and Suburbans were built in Flint Michigan. The "F" in the VIN denotes Flint Assembly. Fremont is noted by a "Z" in the VIN. I started at Flint in June of 1979. I might have seen your dad's Suburban go by. ;) K

Confusing VIN number for 80 pickup

I'm sorry - one more thought: Since Flint Assembly had two separate assembly lines under the same roof the separate serial number starting points may have been an attempt to provide some additional differentiation for those VINs. K

Confusing VIN number for 80 pickup

They used to pass these VIN cards out at the beginning of the year and we would carry them around in our shirt pocket, along with our pocket protector and note cards for the day. I don't know why. It's not like we were going to de-code a particularly sticky VIN while we were using the bathroom...

Confusing VIN number for 80 pickup

Agree; I remember. I should have been more clear I was stating an example. Cadillac Escalade VINs also started with 600001 for some years. We in engineering and product planning got to pick that. Back to my stream of thought: most plants* have a body bank between the cab shop and paint...

    My-6 new process 3-speed overdrive

This could be the clutch throwout bearing - which would be bad regardless of the trans used. K

    My-6 new process 3-speed overdrive

Yes - I would keep the MY6. It's a cool little trans, plus you get the bragging rights of having a MOPAR trans (and the cool Hurst shifter) in your truck from the factory. And - it is admittedly rare-ish across all the model years, regardless of if the number is 100 or 300 or 10,000. Did I...

    My-6 new process 3-speed overdrive

Not sure about this, either. Since the MY6 trans was also available in the full size Blazer it conceivably could have been had in the '88 and '89 V Blazer models. Unfortunately those generic info packets are not in the GM Heritage Center archive so I can't verify. I can say the '90 and '91 V...

    My-6 new process 3-speed overdrive

Not quite what I said; I said that 100 were built under the Temporary Deviation (one of which happened to be mine). I don't know if they went back and opened up the production volume if/when the supplier issue was resolved. K
