Precision windshield gasket, self locking or lock strip?

Was it the type where you basically have to tuck the weatherstrip into itself?

    Early 4.3 upgrade?

The "correct" gear ratio isn't determined my keeping the speedometer accurate. The correct gear ratio is determined by the desired mix of power vs. economy. Then the correct speedo drive and driven gears are chosen to make the speedo accurate. The 700r4 can allow for much better acceleration...

    Early 4.3 upgrade?

If I were to stick with the V6, I'd start with a 4.3 from a '96+ truck. They have much better heads, a balance shaft and a factory roller cam. You can find them used with fairly low miles still. With the money saved from not having to rebuild, there will be money left over for an aluminum intake...

Did GM use Spicer parts from the factory?

When the squarebody trucks were built, the the axle assemblies were a product of GM, other than the Dana axles, of course. At some point around '00 or so, the GM axle division was sold to AAM.

    Long Bed

What is the wheelbase on your truck? Or, do you have a picture of the rear axle? If it's a cab&chassis truck, the frame is a little longer than a regular dually pickup and the axle is narrower than a regular dually pickup.

What have you done to your square lately??

I believe you have a special Lowe's. Now, I gotta give them credit, they have improved their hardware selection greatly in the last few years. But for automotive type stuff, I've had way better luck with the average small town type hardware stores. Most have a great selection that's like 70% of...

    Larger steel wheels

I wonder what the purpose is? If they are just for transport, why aren't they just tall and skinny donuts? I won't claim that I watch every hauler that goes into a dealership, but I've never noticed them in use on a vehicle that's being transported.

    Larger steel wheels

Are you saying the transport wheels are more like donut spares? Why the heck would anyone want those? I have seen pictures of trucks in the past with "transport" wheels and from what I remember, they look like the steely full sized spares. Not my cup of tea at all, so I am definitely foggy as...

    Larger steel wheels

Aren't the "transport" wheels just the large steel rims that were used as full sized spares and mounted under the truck?

    What year bed is this

The plastic shroud started in '84. Unless my 84's original bed wasn't actually original. But I'm 99.9% positive that it was. The bed in the pictures looks like a plastic shroud type bed, but without the plastic shrouds to me.

    Which aftermarket LED headlights?

The harness guy didn't really fall off the map. He just isn't the most honest and got in over his head with buyer requests I think. He did the same thing on multiple forums. Just poor response and customer service, at best. Unless he's moved in recent years, there's people that know exactly...

Searching for My Dad's 1979 Chevy Suburban

Summit is probably as good a place as any. They probably have a lot of options. The only time I've ever bought new trim rings was at swap meets, from reproduction wheel dealers. Often I've just bought used trim rings from swap meets or salvage yards.

If they are actually chrome plated, that's not something I've encountered before. But if they are stainless steel, that's probably all that really matters. I'll also point out that there are numerous styles of trim rings. OE trim rings of different makes and models often have some type of...
