The one that I’m holding in my hand in the picture? That’s a positive lock, teflon that was on there. Umbrella's style is soft rubber and bigger around so they can float without getting hung up on the guide boss. I’ll take a picture later side by side.- ChuckN

Apparently the positive lock style that snap onto the guide boss are supposed to stay snug, but the umbrella style is just that- an umbrella that floats up and down with the valve. Got to thinking about it and it’s likely that the problem is on the intake side due to vacuum- it seems less...- ChuckN

Valve seals for camel hump heads?
@Ricko1966 so this is what I found. Some kind of positive lock. The boss where the Pioneer valve seal would sit is too small in diameter to hold it from moving up and down with the valve. Any idea for what to get next? And would I still use the o-rings on the valve? Thanks in advance.- ChuckN

Well, we had a break in the atmospheric river, so I cruised through the Heavy Metal Custom Shop open house- the owner requested to take a photo with my square (his is an ‘81 as well with an LS swap). Super cool dude. Then I walked around and took a look at some of their projects. -
454 build, which pistons to get to 9:1?
Maybe the shop that helped with the block could help? What have you done to your square lately??
5” drop front (2.5 drop spindle, 2.5 drop spring), 6” drop rear with a standard flip kit. Tires are 255/60/15 front, 275/60/15 rear. Thanks for the compliment bud! -
Painting rally wheel rim
Wagon wheels would be a candidate if I ever wanted to stay with 15” but wanted to run something else besides rallies. Specifically the ones that came on the sport truck trim.- ChuckN

What have you done to your square lately??
Pretty tired after a family trip, so I decided to do something quick and fun today- put on the new center cap emblems for the rally wheels since the old originals were faded to complete silver. Nice to have little mini projects for when the energy level is low. -

I’m cringing posting this because I talk way too much about Vice Grip Garage- but he does have Shine Juice for this (like Poppy’s Patina) and also has some nicer more permanent patina protector products that are more expensive but you can choose your level of shine from matte, satin or gloss...- ChuckN

Just want to make shure im reinstalling new control arms correctly.
If you’re looking for new stock lower control arms, last time I looked, LMC had the license for them and that’s the only place you’ll find them. Upper control arms are easy to find. It’s one reason I went with CPP lower control arms.- ChuckN

@bucket in re-reading your post, that makes sense and I’d bet there were some 4-bolt 327s. And since they used that same block (likely) for the DZ302, it’s likely that they were 4-bolt too for that performance application.- ChuckN

Good question- block says mid 70s. But it is a four bolt main, saw it myself when I changed the pan gasket. I’m not sure if they ever made a 4-bolt 327.- ChuckN

Hooker small block manifolds
@bucket I’ve never seen this on a GM vehicle, but in all my years of working on VWs they were extremely common and reliable. And they always came off easily too.- ChuckN
