Making sure inverted flare cooler lines seal

Hard to tell if they put some kind of different metal insert in there but you’re probably right. The fitting is brass.

Making sure inverted flare cooler lines seal

Paranoia mostly. I was just wondering what what would be preferred if one wanted a backup for sealing, since I’m sure that the aluminum threads are pretty soft and won’t take much torque. I actually placed a call to Cold Case this morning, they recommended nothing on it at all and are confident...

    Edelbrock accelerator pump

Shouldn’t be hard to press down at all. It is spring loaded, but if it feels like something is binding, maybe take it back apart and reassess.

Making sure inverted flare cooler lines seal

So, the truck is getting ready to go back together and back on the ground. I have a Cold Case aftermarket aluminum radiator, and concerned about over tightening the inverted flares into the bungs for the cooler lines- soft aluminum obviously. I know the flare does the job for the seal, but...

    Leaking transmission pan plug

FYI, what I ended up running across at NAPA was a drain pan bolt that matched the threads that was just a bolt with a large shoulder around it and had a formed rubber gasket molded onto it. We’ll see how that goes, and if it still leaks I will definitely try any of those suggestions. It’s funny...

What have you done to your square lately??

Yesterday I lifted the truck up and found out immediately that there’s no way in hell that a guy could fish pre-bent transmission lines through without days of extra work, so plan B. Going to stick with the PO trans lines that he had fabbed with barbed ends. Now I’ll run hose in sequence to the...

    Leaking transmission pan plug

Yeah, truth be told, it was one of those purchases you run across. And it was chrome! Lol… I’ve used Teflon tape before on prior vehicles. I had a CRD Jeep Liberty that had a problematic drain plug from PO over tightening the plug, Teflon did the trick. I did happen across a problem that...

What have you done to your square lately??

Today I had a buddy close by so we re-timed it to 35-36 degrees all in at 3k. Fun fact- when you accidentally let the plastic spark pickup fall against the header tube and it immediately melts, carb cleaner removes the melted plastic it because it’s immediately turned to blackened soot. Also...

    Leaking transmission pan plug

That’s a good idea. Or something like that- I’d have to take the drain plug out and see what bolt size it is. Thanks!

    Leaking transmission pan plug

Quick question- I put a trans pan with a drain plug on the TH350 when I did the shift kit. Sure enough, the plug leaks oil. Maybe the convenience of the plug is outweighed by the fact that it’s a piece of junk. The plug just has a plastic washer. Maybe a rubber washer? Thread sealer? Teflon...

Clear coating over patina: anybody done it?

I have the Shine Juice on my C10. It does a good job, pretty subtle but adds a little bit of gloss. Goes on really shiny, dries up nicely and isn’t sticky or tacky at all.

Ethanol varnish residue: Carb vs EFI

Not that it has any relevance to the topic (apologies to the OP), apparently “gasohol” term was used for the first time in 1978 for any gasoline that contained 10 percent or more of ethanol due to the Clean Air Act. Myself, I’m lucky enough to have 3 stations within 8 miles of me that sell...

Ethanol varnish residue: Carb vs EFI

Im curious as to what blend “Gasohol” was back in the 70s when the fuel crunch was happening- anyone know?

What have you done to your square lately??

FWIW, I’ve gone to using Accel shorty plugs for that reason. I’ve had good luck with them- I just googled their cross reference chart and chose the one that correlates with the AC Delco that I’d normally run. I’ve also heard that they are nothing but rebranded plugs from other manufacturers that...

    Rpm’s at Hwy speeds

Assuming you have all four gears of the trans functional, you could jack it up and count the number of driveshaft rotations to every rotation of the wheels. Or, pull the cover and use the opportunity to change the fluid and do an assessment since it sounds like you haven’t been in there- and...

396 with Edelbrock 1406 running issue

Check your fuel filters- could be clogged. Also, if it wasn’t ethanol free sitting in it, could’ve varnished by now and gummed up the carb a little. It’s not hard to take the top plate of an Edelbrock off if you want to look inside the bowls- just a series of torx head screws after you undo...

I would say that if you give it a really good rinse off after, you’d be fine IMHO. Enjoy!

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Yeah, definitely a rabbit hole. It’s a character flaw that I have. Once I get started on something I have a habit of doing that. And @squaredeal91 you’re probably onto something. There’s nothing lost but time at this point since I bought a nice Summit valve spring tool and can put them on and...

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Well @Ricko1966 not sure that the umbrella seals are going to be a good fit- passing them through the valve springs to check for clearance they seem to rub and hang up quite a bit. Seems like they’d get chewed up. Turns out there were no seals at all on the exhaust, just the o-rings at the...

I tried to think of a situation but I don’t have one. Lots of stories that would be “smallest jobs that took the longest time” tho.

Valve seals for camel hump heads?

Honestly, to keep from asking today a million questions about valve seals, I did some research and I won’t say that the possibilities are endless, but there’s a lot out there for different styles and combinations. On Rickos advice I’m going with the umbrellas- but what came off of mine was...
