    Motor s/nsticker

The 350 I purchased had a serial # sticker U621XXXX Good old 409 washed the number off, so I removed the sticker. There is no number stamped in the block...just shiny iron. Do I correctly conclude that: 1. The short block/motor has been rebuilt by an engine rebuilder?? 2. The block has been...

    Which 350 ?

Thanks, but I purchased an 880 block motor and it IS machined for a mechanical fuel pump........

    Which 350 ?

OK, The purchase has been made. Block casting # 10243880 it is an 880 block It is an 880 block.typically shown to be a roller block. The engine came out of a '93 GMC 1500, but most sites list this block as being used from 95 to 2000, but other sites sat from 87 to ??? Date code A307 so, 1997 ...

    Idle to 1500RPM

Dual plane intake manifold choices tend to be divided into 2 camps: Idle to 5500RPM, lower HP 1500 to 6500RPM. higher HP In the testing I have seen, RPM for max HP is not stated. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/dual-plane-intake-manifold-comparisons/ Maybe this test is outdated?? I really...

    Which 350 ?

I talked to the local machine shop about machining a block for a mechanical fuel pump. He said there is a jig for performing that job, and cost to do the work would be about $25.00 Anyone heard of that??

    Which 350 ?

That is the plan. Make sure purchased parts will be usable on a 350. Should work for all except head work on 305 heads.

    Which 350 ?

Very useful information! ages ago the electric fuel pump just got mounted on the fire wall or fenderwell and was self regulated. It would pump up to whatever pressure then shut off. But I understand the need for all the safety jazz................. I'll definitely be seeking a motor set up fopr...

    Which 350 ?

As I have dual tanks, the pump would need to be external. What ever happened to the fenderwell mounted electric pumps?? No good ??

    Which 350 ?

Interesting note about 416 heads on my engine. The serial # on my block (K0190560) does not match that of the truck, nor does it appear to be any form of s/n for a vehicle installed motor. May have been a crate motor; not sure. I wish I could see the casting # on the rear flange, but a wiring...

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

Saved a few bucks....pulled a rocker cover and found that my engine already has the 416 heads. That "just" leaves cam and intake (along with head work....)

    Which 350 ?

Should I forgo my notion of hopping up my 305 and follow the most popular suggestion of going to a 350, the huge question becomes: What 350 to start with?? I want NO computers, hence NO fuel injection. I want a 1 piece rear main so I don't have to purchase a new flywheel. Should I be...

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

Thanks. Definitely food for thought. As for heads, both sets which I am considering were 305HO heads. Both have 1.84" intake and 1.50" exhaust the 601's have a slightly smaller chamber to boost compression ratio to about 9.6; the 416 would yield about 9.0 but I am not sure which pistons that...

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

Thanks! Isn't that cam a bit on the mild side? What are its advantages/disadvantages? I wouldn't mind going a bit hairier.......

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

I have not purchased the heads, cam,or intake. I have 601 heads available for $50.00/pr and 416's for $100.00 both probably needing valve jobs. I KNOW that moving up to a 350 would be the way to go........but I am following the old adage "work with what you have." Much $$$$ to be spent on...

    Messin' with a 305...Camshaft

I am still contemplating livening up my 305. Truck is an 84 C10, but engine is a 1-piece rear seal 305, so, unsure of year. Odd serial # almost makes me suspect it is a crate motor. Tranny is Muncie M20 Rear 3.73 posi. I have Hedman 1 5/8" long tube headers and 2 1/4" dual exhaust with Walker...

    304 Carb suggestions

Yup. 80457S is what I purchased. The only spot of bother was fitting the fresh air intake for the PCV system to my Edelbrock air cleaner. The carb is so long that I had a hard time finding a place to route the hose that did not interfere with linkages, bowls, auto choke, etc. I finally attached...

    304 Carb suggestions

I wound up with a Holley Street Warrior factory refurb off ebay for $229.99 including shipping and a 1 year warranty. I received it in 2 days and it appears to be virtually brand new! It went right on and started fight up. Couple of idle adjustments later and all is well...... This was just the...

    Mixing JB3 and JB5 brakes

I definitely had shoes installed correctly. As a follow up, I finally got the truck back on the ground after installing 3.73i posi in place of the 2.73 open diff. I upgraded the rear brake system to JB5, same as on the front. Rear skidding is OVER.....matching components did the trick.

    304 Carb suggestions

Thanks! Do you have the part # for the carb? The standard is a 4478. I am not familiar with the term "Level 2" I have found a great deal on a Holley Street Warrior, but it is a manual choke. 600cfm and virtually new. I am thinking.........
