    Carpet

I ordered samples of both. In my lay opinion, the only difference in the essex and the normal was the lines-per-inch of the fibers. The depth and quality of the fibers seemed identical. Moreover, the essex line didn't have exact color matches to many OEM GM carpet colors, while the non-essex...

    TBI/center bolt valve cover options

Those look great, but they are too tall for the TBI harness.

    TBI/center bolt valve cover options

Those are what I bought originally. That is my favorite SBC valve cover design. Sadly, the fill/breather/PCV holes don't work with the 88 TBI setup.

    Hooker small block manifolds

Just returning here to answer my own question: they work with the OEM bracket.

Would you mind posting pics of your process? I plan to do my burb at some point in the not so distant future, and pics of ACC carpet installs in suburbans are few/far between.

    Exhaust system recommendations

I just put a set of the Hooker ceramic coated manifolds on mine and, so far, I am very pleased. They look great and fit well. There are a couple (bad) pics in my "under construction" thread here. I had an exhaust shop do 2.5" pipe back to a new cat and magnaflow muffler. Sounds good, but...

    TBI/center bolt valve cover options

What options do I have for a nice looking valve cover that is a direct bolt on for an 88 suburban (center bolt, TBI, dual grommet, short stack height)? I bought a set of GM Performance/Proform covers (pic below), but they did not have the correct ports for the factory venting/PCV system. I’ve...

    Exhaust Manifold Help

Okay, here is the direction I am leaning: 1) Buy a set of Hooker SBC manifolds (raw finish), 2) send the Hooker manifolds to Jet-Hot for a proper ceramic coating, 3) have my exhaust shop install them and fab a new Y pipe since the hooker manifolds use a two-bolt flange. Part of me likes...

Dang. I bought an LMC repop a couple months ago. I would have 100% bought this instead had it been available. GLWS.

    Exhaust Manifold Help

Awesome. Thanks for that info. Any chance you could snap a pic of that Vintage Air bracket? I’m not sure how close it is to the OEM bracket. This is the OEM bracket:

    Exhaust Manifold Help

Thanks. I’ll check the flatness (is that a word?) of the manifolds and then try them gasketless with some high temp RTV. The gaskets I was using were the metallic 3 piece ones. Side question: any experience with the Hooker SBC manifolds. They look great. If they are high quality, fit these...

    Hooker small block manifolds

Has anyone used these manifolds with the AC/Power steering pump bracket that bolts to the front manifold studs on the driver’s side? I’m hoping this would be a direct swap with no modification needed to the bracket. Thanks in advance.

    Exhaust Manifold Help

So, after swapping the engine on my 88 350TBI Suburban, I have a recurring exhaust leak. After about 3000 miles, the manifold on the driver's side (rearmost cylinder) developed a leak. I replaced the gasket, re-torqued, and everything was fine . . . for about 3000 miles until it happened...

Thinking about a momo California heritage wheel for Tina… any momo owners out there?

Looks good. I might try to find a bow tie or GM horn button if possible.

Thinking about a momo California heritage wheel for Tina… any momo owners out there?

I had a momo prototipo in an old air cooled 911 that I used to own. It was a great wheel in that context. However, I don't know that they fit the character as well in a square.

    700R4 Noise - any thoughts?

My 88 suburban has made this noise as long as I have owned it. I only hear it in reverse or drive at parking speeds. Video of noise linked below. The shifts you hear in the video are P>R>N>D>N>R>P. You can hear the noise when in reverse. I would describe it as somewhere between a rattle and a...

No. I ended up holding off on the carpet purchase. Some other expenses lowered this on the priority list. I still plan to do it eventually, but I am cash-poor for car projects at the moment.

Yeah. I am a VW guy too. Like bucket said, the Mk4 VW guys love those wheels. You should try selling them on vwvortex.com. Its a heavily trafficked VW forum.

    Suburban Carpet Thread

Yeah. I am leaning that way. I honestly wish I could get all the stains out of the original carpet. Otherwise, its in pretty good shape. But, it has multiple, pretty bad, decades old stains that I cant get out no matter how hard I try.

No surprise, but the “medium grey” (non-Essex) is the closest match to the color.
