What have you done to your square lately??

205/70 or more likely 215/60. Stock was P205/75 all around, have P235/75 rears with room for 30-9.5 or 31-10.5. Truck is on 15x6 van wheels, that are stock per the spid label. Will fine tune the rear height via tire selection. P235/75 up front with same model 31-10.5 out back would be ideal.

What have you done to your square lately??

Yes, as soon as my K3500 dually is back on the road. It’s dead, where I need to park Ralph. Going to trim 2 full loops per coil and run shorter front tires. Will get 2” spindles if absolutely necessary.

What have you done to your square lately??

That’s a 6.5” rear drop, and the engine is in fact installed in that pic.

What have you done to your square lately??

Drug it out of the orchard. Still needs to be closer to the house before I pull and cut the front coils.

Anyone use HOK base coat? How do you like it?

I sprayed a lot of HOK in the mid to late 90s and early 2000s. It sprays like lacquer, but with set working times. Follow the recoat directions to the letter, you’ll love the finished product. Try to “wing it” and you’ll hate it.

Rear Step Bumper Pad 1985 GMC C15

Go the the riding mower accessory aisle at Lowes/Home Despot. See the 2 pack of self adhesive rubber step pads? 2 minutes with pencil, ruler and box cutter… Can even be trimmed out for your trailer ball and chain retention eyebolts or clevises. Improvise. Adapt. Make it work. You have to make...

    Which primer to use?

A good epoxy primer, and then top coat it with paint of your choice. Does not have to be a full on high zoot bells and whistles brand. Even epoxy primer will degrade quickly if out in the elements. Rustoleum, Krylon or Majic tractor paint from a foofoo can or even brushed on from the quart can...

    S-10 4.3 headers fit 85/86?

As asked, will the shorty headers for an S10 4wd work on a 2wd full size? The units come with O2 sensor block off plates and easy to cap egr fittings. I’d rather not chop up the stock stuff in case somebody in an emissions test area needs them. Trying to get the engine bay as bare bones as...

Cheapy Super Beetle for the wife

The dual carb 2332cc this car used to have got “swapped out” by a local rip off shop 20+ years ago. Along with the 4 wheel discs, adjustable struts, triangulated strut brace… He told the fossil-in-law that “stock was safer” for an 80 year old to drive. Wife and I were living in WA, car was in...

Jan want and did it again, New old truck

Every day is Yule for old truck fans in sw TN. Get away from Memphis/Jackson, and even old K20 show rigs gone to seed are cheap. Looking at an 85 with ladder bars, okay body, no engine or interior, Barts whhels/40” Ground Hawgs, for $2500…

Jan want and did it again, New old truck

Building a blend of these 3. First truck’s grille guard, third truck’s grill, middle truck’s lift and conversion. My 92 K1500 will sit like the lifted ifs truck, with f/r 13500# winches, and looking at a 56 body donor later today.

Cheapy Super Beetle for the wife

Was her Dad’s car. I’m building it as safely as possible, getting disc brakes, all new hard lines and soft lines, rewebbed the seatbelts (lime green), V rated tires that meet both DOT/TUV standards… It sat in the barn from 2006 to 2021. Took 4 hours to get it running like a sewing machine. Has...

Jan want and did it again, New old truck

I have 5 ifs trucks, 3 are 2wd. 1 is going from 9.25” ifs/14 bolt to D70/D80 on C60 springs. That particular truck is also going from Vortec 350 to 8.1L. 10mpg is 10mpg. The other 4wd is staying ifs and 350, going carb, Th350/400, 1970s hei, full rewire, to tow our mobile kitchen/bakery (wife’s...

Cheapy Super Beetle for the wife

She chose the color scheme, will be matte black and satin eggplant with lime green welting. Rattle canned the color test, zero prep, she loves it.

Jan want and did it again, New old truck

Actually switching my 99 K3500 c&c to solid axle and C60 sourced rear springs. Retired (very tired) well driller welding truck. Do I have to, no, but need more clearance for disaster recovery use. Also switching it back to steel dually wheels, and 14 ply tires. Truck is worn out at 150,000...

    Other wiper arms and wipers

You “should” be able to crack the pin block off with pliers, revealing, a straight section that the J-hook adaptor in your new blade kit will fit perfectly… Serious cheapskate when it comes to my 85 C10 swb.

New tires and powder coated rally’s installed

15x6 2wd wheels. Original rings got 92 year old father-in-law’d. He died 1-1-2018, still have not located them.

New tires and powder coated rally’s installed

Rally wheels look so much better in -ANYTHING- other than black or silver. IF my truck goes back to red/white, red rallies. If I stick with the current USFS/NPS puke green, wheels will be color matched. And agree they look 1000x better w/o the trim rings. Maybe a 40 Ford style ribbed stainless...

    Jb5 brake interchange and donors

Are you staying with a plastic and aluminum master cylinder? My 85 C10 swb has the lightest duty springs offered, but HD brakes/cooling. Per the spid. You can do the HD brake swap with off the shelf parts, just need to order new front spindles to go with the rotors/calipers. Note, if you run F/R...

    Refresh in near future

Had a 77 F100 that should not have existed, all stock. 302, C5 transmission, 5 lug full floater Dana 44. USA built truck, transmission and rear axle tags had Argentina on them… My 85 C10 swb has an equal oem mix of SAE and metric fasteners. And those f’n Torx screws in about 8 different tiny sizes…

    Rotted out EGR diaphram frame

Actually getting ready to do the same. High rise (stock) cast iron 4.3 Qjet intake. Had to pull the a/c compressor and mounts, air pump tubing and fitting, and a couple dozen vacuum lines/wires, to remove a valve cover. First time off in 40 years. Jeg’s stand alone hei distributor, no esc...

    Struggling with my 700R4

In my case, definitely . 1979 block/heads. Unknown year redrilled tbi mid-rise manifold. Everything else is stock 1992 parts on the engine. Have to use the “universal” (fits -nothing- correctly) tv cable. And like clockwork, every 8 months lunches reverse and 4th, snaps the flexplate, and gets...

    Crossmember?

Just buy a new harness from EZ or Rebel wiring. Less than $300, gets you a new fusebox (cigarette pack sized), all new plugs, deletes the fusible links, every wire is fully labeled, no corrosion under the insulation… A couple pack of plain fittings, some heat shrink tubing… Buy once, cry once...

Anyone bought the AMD premium / chrome grill?

Now that you’ve shown it, I want it, and the matching bumper. My originally red/white 85 is named “Ralph”, after Ralph “Sonny” Barger. An 85 to 81 conversion would be most appropriate…

Search for a spare 15-inch wheel or two

When I needed new steelies for a 56 210 Delray, Parisienne and similar BOPS plus standard Caprice “old people got to church cars” were 5 on 4.75” bolt pattern. Just like S10s. Real (rwd) Cads depended on model, could be either. GM “does” stand for “General Maybem” after all. Rear mount...
