    1977 K20 Heavy Duty Emissions

Hey Johnny. Congratulations on the K20. I got my '76 K20 about 3 years ago and have been going through restoration. I'm in the same boat with the smog. My truck didn't have any of the original equipment, so I slowly reconstructed it. It actually wasn't too bad. Here is what I learned for...

All time 4x4 / NP203 Truck Questions, hard to make tight turns

Interestingly, my shifter has a provision for a switch, but nothing was installed. Maybe an option(?). I can't say for sure my shifter is original to my truck, as many things had been changed, but it does look like the NP203 shifter, at some point, had a switch as an option.

All time 4x4 / NP203 Truck Questions, hard to make tight turns

Before doing any major swaps, I'd encourage you to go through the shifter mechanism. I believe the NP203 gets a bad rap (at least partially) because of the shifter. When set up well, it works well. But if it is dirty or was reassembled incorrectly, it is terrible. I went through mine and it...

    73-79 Side Trim Measurements

Anyone willing to take some measurements of their side trim? The top row is pretty easy because it follows the body line. The lower line, between the wheels is a bit more difficult. My truck has the gas doors (an '80 bed), and I am using that to space the bottom row of trim based on pictures...

    Engine Build

I've used the Powermaster (#9612) starter for many years. Very reliable and have adjustable clocking for header clearance. Their alternators are really good, as well.

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

Did the machine shop remove the threaded plugs in the back of the block near the cam journal before hot tanking? If not, it may be worthwhile to check to make sure there isn't sludge build up inside. Easiest to check now. I've heard not all shops remove them when cleaning. Overall, looking...

    87' 350 SBC Rebuild

In '87, the bottom end was good and stout with the 4-bolt caps. The top end was terrible, mostly for smog reasons and economy. The result was a meager 210hp and 300lb-ft of torque. With a few minor modifications, it is easy to increase both by ~100 points, without losing low end performance...

    I need a Holley Sniper 2 expert

If you haven't purchased the CAN to USB adapter cable, I would recommend it. It allows you to connect to a PC. I've found that even with these "self-learning" systems, a PC is still necessary. The graphs and tables also makes visualization easier to make sure you have smooth profiles. Note...

    Replacing The Quadrajet

I'm very happy with the National Carburetor Q-Jet I got for my '76 400. That thing starts faster than my fuel injected cars. I do have an electric fuel pump hooked up, so that helps, but overall, I'm very happy with the Q-jet's performance.

    Stalls under acceleration

I agree with Sad Sack's recommendations. I recommend you invest in a few tools before investing in parts. * Get a fuel pressure gauge and plumb it between the pump and the carb. It should be between 4-6psi and not move much. (~$50) * Get a timing light with an advance function. Check initial...

    USA1 Industries

You got lucky. The interior kit for my '76 K20 took about 2 years before I got everything. I think the dash pad was the last item. The door panels were cancelled because they stopped selling the full door panel kit for the '76. I ended up buying the individual pieces. A bit of a pain as you...

    Electric fuel pump

It is mounted on the frame on the passenger side, just after selector valve. I installed 100um filters on each fuel line before the selector valve and then a 20um filter after the fuel pump. I can't recall the part numbers, but I can get them. Since the exhaust routes through that area where...

    K10 1983 700r4 installation help needed

When removed my T350/NP203 and then installed my 700R4/NP203 combo, I used this motorcycle jack from Harbor Freight. By placing the T-Case adapter between the two lift extensions (shown in the pic), it balanced perfectly. The lift extensions supported the trans pan and the T-Case so there...

    Struggling with my 700R4

Yea, I probably should have gone with a 4L60E (early 1 piece case model). I'm not 100% sure it is the trans. Could be something odd with the T-case. I'm going to do the line pressure testing and I'll report back.

I agree. Buy that kit. $375 is worth it. Looks like there is a $20 discount code, so $355.

Is There a 700R4 / 350 Transmission Flexplate / Inspection Cover That Fits?

Here are the brackets. They are on ebay. I can't seem to post the link for some reason. Just search for: "transmission to engine mount struts"

Is There a 700R4 / 350 Transmission Flexplate / Inspection Cover That Fits?

If the transmission is a "K" case, it will have the larger M10 bolts that attach the inspection cover to the case. By looking at the pic, it appears they are the larger size. You'll want an original cast aluminum inspection cover, not the stamped sheetmetal one. You'll just need to keep an...

    Struggling with my 700R4

    K. Here is what I have. Truck: 1976 K20 in process of full restoration. Truck is running with steering and brakes, so its able to move under its own power. Most sheetmetal is at the body shop preparing for the full repaint, so it isn't driveable on the street. Drivetrain: Level 3 700R4 from...

I highly recommend adding a fuel pressure gauge inline. It'll be useful for debugging now, and in the future.

Truck wants to die after few min of driving

I took the tank out and had it professionally cleaned and sealed. You could give it a try yourself. Just be careful with that acid.

Truck wants to die after few min of driving

Get a fuel pressure gauge and monitor it. You could be picking up crud from inside the tank and collecting it on the sock at the pick up. This will fuel starve the engine. Once you shut it off, the crud falls back to the bottom of the tank and it will run fine for a while. I went through the...
