What have you done to your square lately??

Cleaning things up for manifold install once it’s back. Chased all the bolt holes, cleaned and vacuumed, then masked areas off for paint. Topside creeper was a big help, plus you get a great abdominal workout! :D

What new tools have you got lately?

Wife got me an early Fathers Day tool, a topside creeper to reach those hard to get to places. Will be great when I need to install my intake and distributor when the intake gets back. In the meantime she certainly seems to like it! :D

    Ford 460 project

Thanks @bucket and @HotWheelsBurban. It’s been many years since I’ve built (Oops, assembled) a Ford.

    Ford 460 project

Hoping somebody here at GMSB can tell me what Ford oil pan this is, rear sump or mid sump? I’ve looked and looked on line but can’t find any good answers. From reading, mid sumps were unusual but were used for engines sold to motor home manufacturers, which is what this engine was in. It looks...

My dad has since passed, but he could still give you the finger up to the end!

    Ford 460 project

The machine shop is only about 9 miles from my place, good size building on the owners farm. The owner is a few years younger than me and probably 6’6” and close to 300 lbs, very little of which is fat. We got to talking , then he picked up that 460 block and carried it into the shop. I...

    Ford 460 project

Decided that the pitting in those two cylinders was bad enough to warrant getting the block bored, so off we go to the machine shop. It’s a shame as everything else was in good shape, as you might expect for an engine with 40K miles. Years ago my boss once said all he used his truck for was...

What new tools have you got lately?

Got this vintage Sears Penske made in USA (1970s) exhaust gas analyzer. Seems to have never been used, still in box with manual. Popped in 3 C cell batteries and it came to life. Should be fun to use to tune carbs.

Some cleaning and honing and everything spins nicely.

    Ford 460 project

Appreciate the input everyone. The owner was asking what I thought (bore it out or not) but I haven’t committed yet as I need to clean those two cylinders up and see how badly they may or may not be pitted. The heads look OK, as does the bottom end so if I could get this back together after a...

    Ford 460 project

Mud and rust in cylinders 1 and 2. I was able to slightly rotate it so it's not hard siezed, just hung up on that rust. Pic is #1. #2 is not quite as bad. Other cylinders look pretty decent.

    Ford 460 project

So our K9 Officer buddy got himself a project Ford truck with no drivetrain and then picked up a 460 that had been in a motorhome. I rebuilt an Edelbrock carb I had for it, then we decided to bring it to my shop to see if the engine was salvageable. It had been stored outside with no carb for an...

“Danger Noodles!” Have never heard that term in my 65 years but knew exactly what you were referring to. :rotflmao:

What have you done to your square lately??

Going through what I removed when I pulled the intake manifold and came across this on the distributor! How did this even work! Not sure but I believe I wasn’t far from a breakdown.

What have you done to your square lately??

Pulled the intake manifold to ship out for polishing. So now have several weeks to do odds and ends until manifold is returned. The manifold is a vintage Weiand dual plane unit that has instructions on how to pronounce Weiand cast right into it. “SAY WHY-AND”. The polishing shop said they...

    Exhaust gas analyzer

Anybody have a recommendation for an Exhaust Gas Analyzer that will provide AFR info? Looking at a couple of vintage Sears tools like the one pictured below, but going that route can be risky. Was hoping for a modern digital tool if not priced way high.

    Edelbrock build

Friend got his rebuild kit yesterday and gave it the wife at work so today I assembled everything and dropped it on the Blazer to check it out. Figured the Blazers 454 and his 460 should be pretty close. It fired right up the first attempt but the idle speed was too low and it died. Made an...

    Edelbrock build

Exactly what I did! :waytogo: Also realized I was missing the S link for the accelerator pump so getting one of those too. Tried to make one but wasn’t happy with the result.

    Edelbrock build

Last night our K9 Officer friend was over to work with Kelly and Ranger and we got to discussing his new project, a 74 Ford truck that he bought a 460 to fix up and drop in. He mentioned he needed a carb and I told him I had a 1406 Edelbrock that has sat around in pieces (completely...

Removing the inner fender is pretty simple and provides easy access.

What have you done to your square lately??

Gorgeous day, went for a great drive. I had also driven it to town yesterday so before today’s drive I checked bolt torques on the exhaust manifolds I had just replaced and also the exhaust pipe flange bolts while everything was cold. Manifold bolts were all unchanged but the exhaust pipe bolts...

Installed the exhaust manifolds this morning. Still need to hook up the exhaust pipes this afternoon and install the new hangers. Used the Exhaust Manifold Heat Curing tool last night to cook a delicious supper.:Big Laugh:

What have you done to your square lately??

Yes sir, I do. She works for the Lynchburg Police Department (makes sure the officers get paid and the K9s get lots of love) and many of our friends are LEO. So when I do stuff like bake engine parts in the kitchen oven, I also shamelessly use things like the below as justification for my...
