    Engine mount, old or new?

I have heard two opinions 1. Old OEM after 40 years is still better than new chinese 2. Replace them as the engine is out now. Its not about money. The new rubber ones available here cost 20-35$. Whats your opinion. (the small cracs are more visible in images than in real life)

Th700 cooler line nuts & tools

I cut a 1/2" line wrench in half. It was still not handy but doable.

Th700 cooler line nuts & tools

What tools & tricks have you used to reach the line ends at the transmission? Specially the lower line seems almost impossible, there is dipstick and governor housing on the way, no room to turn the 1/2 line wrench. I was thinking of cutting it in half to get more rotation? Other tricks?

    Distributor with limiter

My 334 small block needs a distributor and there might be enough power in it for needing a rev limiter too ;) I have understood the GM Performance LT4 hot cam asks for melonized gear in the distributor, should this one work? Any posseible fitment issues? FAST XDi Street HEI Distributors 303051...

Engine & transmission removal & reinstall general tips

Hi, I'm going to take a small block & Th700 out and put another similair set in. Should I take them out / reinstall together or separately? My carb plate seemed ok for lifting the engine, what about if I lift toghether with the transmission? The hood is off but can the radiator stay in...

    Best spring coil compressor?

I used this. The bolt was too long, so I made a sleeve (the rusty part). Worked all right.

    Coil spring lift spacer questions

I actually had the driver side spirng wrong, the lower end of the coil was not in the pocket of the A-arm. I had the ball joint already in place but using an internal spring compressor I was able to squeeze the spring enough that i cound hit the end of the coil (and spacer) with a hammer and a...

    Coil spring lift spacer questions

I got it back together. The McBay thinnest spacers that were supposed to lift 1" actually lifted 1.5" on one side and some more on the other. I did some hopping on the front bumper and heard some banging as the springs settled to their places. Now the driver side rides 3/8" higher than the...

    Coil spring lift spacer questions

I'm in the process of adding the thinnest McBay spacers for 1" lift. The problem is stock c10 front springs that are prettu long and lean against lower A-arms. Just bought internal spring compressers to shorten the spring so much that the spacer does not slip away as I raise the lower A-arm...

    Lower ball joint tool

The tool was perfect. I wonder why no-one makes jacking press tool for separating lower control arm which is way harder. I made a one out of a bolt with tight thread, a nut and a socket.

Does 33x12.50R15 fit at the rear of a 2wd C10 with stock suspension, stock 8x15 wheels

The truck is currently on 8x15 stock wheels and 31x10.50R15 tires which have ample space around them and I'll be installing 1" lift up front to level the stance a bit. I was also planning to go 32x11.50R15 tires all around, but as they are a bit rare and expensive so I figured an option: 32s up...

    Gearing/revs for LT4 hot cam (219/228deg)

Hi, I'm going to swap the engine to a bit punchier sbc with a GM Performance LT4 Hotcam (219/228deg, .525/.525 lift https://www.gmperformancemotor.com/parts/24502586.html ) and also the I might need to adjust/replace the gear for it has a rather loud engine braking noise so gearing change is an...

Parking brake cable mount for exhaust that exits to side in front of rear wheel? Pics?

I have this setup for parking brake in my '85 longbed. The cables hang quite low on the left side in front of the rear wheel so there is not good room for side exhaust exit. How have you solved this? Seems like a different mount in the frame could help lifting the cables higher, but would it...

    400hp small block with th700

That's why I prefer reading only horsepower@ different rpm points from dyno sheets/curves. Better still average horsepower at spesific usable rpm range. No need for torque numbers, they give no extra info and just make things more complicated.

    400hp small block with th700

Sorry I was posting this too soon without checking the tach. The gear ratio calculator tells that under WOT accleration the revs should drop from from 5100 to below 2800 when upshifting to the second gear, but my tach says the drop is only 5100 to 3900 (I wonder why, converter maybe). That means...

    400hp small block with th700

My C10 drivetrain has th700 and 3000 stall, 31" wheels, 4.10 gear and posi rear. The current 305 powerband makes 130hp@2500rpm and 167hp@3000rpm while max power is 220hp/4400-5200 (those are cranckshaft power estimates, 15% up from hub dyno readings (190hp max)) I have been quite happy how it...

    700R4 Information Thread

Thanks for the infos. About the lockup: I replaced the lockup solenoid, now I saw and heard it click with the manual switch. It did not fix the lockup except once or twice with cold engine the converter has felt like it locked up when testing with the manual switch. I called a...

    700R4 Information Thread

Hi, I have had a professionally rebuilt and strengtened th700 for a while, but it wont shift to the 4th gear or lockup the converter. At first I thought that it shifts to the fourth, as it feels like downshifting when I engine brake and move the shifter from OD to D. There is a soft jerk that...

    1985 C10 shock recommendations

Can you recommend shock absorbers for a normal ride height C10 1985 longbed? I'm after comfortable ride over speed bumps and bigger jolts. Right now there seems to be very little if any rebound absorption specially at the rear. My shocks are worn for sure but looking at the old Chevy commercials...

Softer suspension with longer travel (not a prerunner, but that style)

Probably doing that since front suspension upgrade might be too costly and the rear suspension need be vastly improved to justify any upgrade in the front a arms. Nevertheless I''m still interested in the options for a good front and back mid-travel suspension too. What I've come across for 2wd...

Softer suspension with longer travel (not a prerunner, but that style)

Hi, I've got a 1985 C10 longbed that's rolling on 31x10.5x15 all terrain tires and GM original optional 8x15 "styled sport" wheels. It's got stock suspension which up front is ok but specially rear is bouncy and stiff. I do not carry heavy loads. I'm a big fan of prerunner trucks, those off-road...

Where to mount TH700 manual lock-up switch?

I have the cruise control on-off switch unused since I have no cruise. It would be in my fingertips so using it would be pretty smooth I guess. I was figuring if I could use it for grounding the green manual lockup wire from my TCi 376600 vacuum lockup control. Anyone done this? Is it properly...
