    350 High Inconsistent Idle

I would carefully look down the inlet of the carb while it's running to see if it's pulling any fuel from the venturi and make sure your still in the idle circuit. I had one older Eldelbrock 1406 that refused to idle and fouled out plugs. I ran the engine with the top of the carburetor off and...

What new tools have you got lately?

I repair material handling equipment as my day job, fork lifts, order pickers, reach trucks, etc. A customer is turning their fleet and I bought this; a '17 Toyota 3 wheel sit down with 3800 lb capacity. The steer wheel placement allows it to turn in it's own space give or take a couple inches...

What have you done to your square lately??

I am finding this out. It didn't drive bad at all I am really surprised and will think differently if I have to do this again on another truck.

What have you done to your square lately??

No but honestly, I didn't think it had excessive play. I had purchased the box for another truck I have and just decided to put it on since I was in there.

    Anti theft devices

I have been thinking about just wiring a 12 volt, bluetooth relay that works off an app on my phone along with an Apple air tag. If the relay will allow it, wire the open side to a red flashing led that turns off when you close the circuit and turn the fuel pump or other circuit on. The air tag...

What have you done to your square lately??

Just a re man, I believe it was a AC Delco. I forgot to add I installed a ORD steering brace too while it was apart. Again, I can't get over the difference everything made. The irony is I really didn't think the box, the coupler, or the frame was that bad.

What have you done to your square lately??

So I finally got to drive it down the road today after starting an engine swap in May. After getting it out of the garage, it had an oil leak from what seemed like the oil cooler filter connection. Ordered a FelPro gasket set, installed, leaks worse. Take it apart, look it over carefully...

What new tools have you got lately?

Scored a couple other things at a on line local auction. A fluid evacuation tank which you can use to change oil and other fluids in engines, transmissions and differentials without pulling covers and such. The other item is a gas tank adaptor attached to a transmission jack. Come tax time, I...

What have you done to your square lately??

A used harness for a one year only truck I want to think would be difficult to find but there is one listed on Ebay now. It's for a manual but should be able to add my stuff for the lock up converter and such. Something from a milder climate might have a chance but every time I touched a...

What have you done to your square lately??

I have never purchased a Painless Wiring harness, is there an issue with them? I am still on the fence about swapping it out.

What have you done to your square lately??

My cross to bear was wiring pigtails and sensors. When I started , it was a "BOAT, bust out another thousand", by the time I got to the end off it it was a 'BOAH, bust out another hundred". You try to do it right so it doesn't bite you later but damn, it got old and expensive. Amazon is $3 more...

What have you done to your square lately??

5/25 posted I pulled it in the garage for a engine swap and some other stuff, 11/16 it drove out on it's own power. Still have some other stuff to do under the hood but it runs. Lessons I learned: I think I am getting too old for this, engine swapping a mildly lifted 4x4 is a PIA. 1987's are...

    TBI fuel pressure gauge...

Having just installed that on a 5.7 TBI, the factory fuel line needs to be shortened and re fitted. I ended up using 6an fittings and hose. A spacer under the throttle body helps too with clearances. Once I installed it, I found only 8 psi of fuel pressure when I should have 14 psi. I also found...

What new tools have you got lately?

I am trying to assemble a functioning automotive garage that we could work on anything. All this stuff new is expensive, I have been buying at surplus auctions. They don't give it away but cheaper than buying it new. First up is post jacks for under car work on a rack Second is a pair of...

What new tools have you got lately?

I am in the material handling business and we sell fork lifts and all types of racking. Once I get my shop together, I am going to use similar racking but have metal bent to make the first level the work bench with a back splash and bolt the vice the metal top. Put a cross bar just above the...

    Best budget lift

This is 2.5 inch Tuff Country spring lift both front and rear on 33/12.50. It has not rubbed or scrapped the front tires so far. My daily is a Tacoma and Pro Master van, I want to say that the ride is too soft with this kit.

What new tools have you got lately?

Scored a Hein Warner 4 ton floor jack last week. It had a in service date of '17 so should be fine, if not throw a service kit in it. I don't agree with the price of these new but do believe they are much better than a disposable Harbor Freight jacks. It will be around long after I am gone. I...

    87 Chevy TBI IAC Troubleshooting

Checking the continuity to the ECM is a good idea, I think they have replacement pig tails on Rock auto for that. I found on 2 of my trucks the EGR solenoid causing a vacuum leak. I blocked off it's vacuum source to verify.

Looked at a truck today, odd rust, thoughts

When they are rusted that high, I usually think they have been around salt air and the coast. The red one was from Newport Beach CA and the whole cowl was toast. It had rust around the door jambs like you posted. The green and tan one was from Santa Barbara CA. Floors and rockers were mint in...

    Fall Barrette Jackson Auction

Barrett Jackson Auctions are class acts, if you have never been to one, put it on your bucket list. Imagine Barnum and Bailey met a auction house. I went a couple years back, they had Dodge thrill rides. That year they had a drag strip set up with 2 brand new Hellcat Challengers with...

What new tools have you got lately?

I read someplace there is software that ties in and can do real time sensor values on OBD1 vehicles with a lap top but have not really needed it. Let's see if it actually boots up and is functional, the last 2 Genesis scan tools I bought have cables you have to hold just the right way for them...

What new tools have you got lately?

Bought this a couple weeks ago, it's a coolant exchange machine. It pulls old coolant out, applies a vacuum to the system, then installs the new coolant. Scored this also a while back but have not had time to play with it, a old school GM Tech 2 with OBD1 stuff

United By Trucks podcast- garage accident topic

I use jack stands and leave the jack with tension on it to add stability. Don't forget to chock the wheels or parking brake. One wheel wonders in park isn't going to prevent it from moving once weight is removed from one of the wheels.. Look at the situation and think twice before doing it. An...
