    Inconsistent tapping from 400 sbc

Get a short broom handle. Put one end up to your ear and poke around the engine with the other end. That will narrow it down for you.

    1984 Chevrolet k10 700r4 id help

I have the same truck and powertrain. Yours probably came stock with a 305 as well. OD transmission, lock up TC, 5.0liter motor and who can forget the rock-crushing 307 axle. They were built for fuel economy, and at that in my opinion, they failed. Around 55mph around town, they constantly go in...

    Bad alternator bearings

Loose belt. They make worse noise when they are wrench tight (but not tight enough). You can’t apply enough pressure with your hand. Tighten it up, probably be good to go.

    I need direction.

I would highly recommend the Holley 12-308. They are a drop in replacement for the stock sending unit and you do not need a new tank. Super quiet and you won’t need a fuel regulator. If you are doing dual tanks, I have a thread on here someplace with a wiring diagram to add relays to switch...

    Cluster is overwhelming

These may help you start your di-ag. (Yes, I stole these like a thief in the night). A good test light and multimeter are essential. Sounds like you probably need to start from scratch. Also don’t forget to check power from the battery to the starters and to the alternator and finally from the...

    Death wobble

Just had to box the frame on my brothers K5 last week because of a cracked frame at the steering box. They sell kits for the repair, but you better know how to weld and have machine that can handle it.

    Death wobble

Have someone move the steering back and forth in small turns while you are under there looking at the joints. Look at all of the joints to see which ones have movement in them. There should be NO give in a good component on a good front end, all the components should start to move when you...

    K10 1983 700r4 installation help needed

Pull the cross member and make your life simple, it’s just 4 bolts. Also, I WOULD NOT try to install the Transfer Case attached to the tranny at the same time as the transmission unless you have the right jack. It is super back-heavy and hard line up with the bell housing. I only do this when I...

Engine cranks but doesn’t start. I believe it’s my timing in my distributor.

Spin the motor and Look for the timing mark on the balancer to be sure you are TDC and not on the exhaust stroke. Line up the mark on the balancer with the timing indicator on the timing chain cover. That will be true TDC. As stated, whereever the rotor is pointed at on the distributor is #1...

    700r4 with edelbrock carb

That looks right, but I would go with the Edelbrock specific and not the universal kit if if that is the kind you are running. Also, I purchased that TV cable before just to put a fresh one on when I rebuilt the trans and it was longer than the original so I didn’t use it. I didn’t want a bun...

    700r4 with edelbrock carb

Double tap on the pressure test to dial in the TV cable before you move it. A pressure test kit is like $25 on Amazon. Make sure you get one with a gauge that goes up to at least 300psi. Nick has the pressure test specs on his 700r4 page. Do it wrong and you will burn it up in less than 5 miles

    New front bumper and brackets

Try putting a big adjustable on the bumper mount and torque it left or right whichever way it has to go to line up. It’s nice to have a helper drop the bolt in for you. Like everyone said, hand tight everything until you get a bolt and nut in every hole, then tighten it down and watch it groan

    Best radiator fan kit -Alloyworks?

Get a radiator shroud. If your fan keeps spinning when you shut the motor off hot, the thermostatic clutch is bad. Can’t over stress how important it is to have the shroud in place to cool effectively.

    New issue

Sorry, I don’t know how I missed that, I wasn’t tracking that this was a K truck. Yeah that rod that connects to the TC is important.

    New issue

Maybe you can get in there with a 90 degree drill and easy-out it??? Once broken free, I have never had to fight a bell housing bolt, so I think what’s left could come out without a fight. For as much work as it is going to be to unscrew that mess, I also agree you can probably just leave it...

    Best radiator fan kit -Alloyworks?

I recently purchased a Cold Case Radiator. Expensive, but while I will normally very quickly complain about cheaply made junk, I am actually very impressed with this unit. It is solid and they make two heights, the shorter one should work with your the location of your current radiator. I have...

Turn signal circuit fuse is "hot-to-touch" - excessively warm

I get the sense you are looking for some easier di-ag options. Pull the flasher relay. That will isolate the TS circuit. if it’s still warm, look up stream, or maybe at the break light circuit. Another direction; I do like the idea of stepping down fuse size until you get a pop. It will tell...

    700R4 Information Thread

Finally got it back to the builder. Pan gasket was leaking anyway, so he had to drop it no matter what to fix that. I bought the Sonnax reverse boost valve you suggested and handed it to him. Worth the $30 so he had no excuse not to get it all done at the same time. Retested it, 1 and 2 are at...

    Wiper Issues

Officially, Lights don’t cross on that system, nevertheless, here we are. I think The purple wire (but someone will correct me if not) in the harness is the ground and the motor is ground triggered. Unplug the switch from the harness. Check the switch for continuity with the purple and also the...

    Ball joint

If the zerk fitting is new; Pull it out and see what is at the bottom of it. It should be soft grease. If it is anything hard, 1) try and clean it out with a pick and see if it will take grease. If still no joy 2) replace the joint. If there is any chance of the joint being salvageable, there...

    Glass lock strip replacement

They sell these kits at LMC. I bought the chrome strip since that was what my truck had originally, and a new weather seal when I had windshield replaced. I brought both of them to a windshield guy to do the install. The chrome started to crack and fall apart during the installation and I had...
