87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

Cool. I'm curious to hear -watt- the -current- problem is. Don't forget to -relay- the results to us. Sometimes I have a -short- -fuse- when dealing with electrical problems, but its very -empowering- when I fix my own vehicle.

Nice. So its already designed to be easily tested and verified?

87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

Could be BS, but it sure sounds reasonable to me. I would give that a try for sure. Could he test this by bypassing / overriding the oil pressure switch with a jumper?

    Truck Overheating

    1) Check H2O Pump belt tension. 2) Pull radiator cap and check for good coolant flow at "above idle RPM". 3) Check fuel ratio (running lean?) 4) Pull the thermostat out just to confirm that this COMPLETELY solves the problem and runs cold. 5) Reinstall thermostat, and continue trouble shooting...

87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

You have a lean condition that is worse when hot. So I would get it hot and then pull the air cleaner. Then pull that metal ring off, if it has one. Then have someone crank the motor over while you watch the injectors. Do they fire right away? Or do they not fire at all when hot. Then let it sit...

87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

So the problems started immediately after the impact? Like, you turned the engine off to exchange insurance, and then when you went to restart - the problem was there for the first time?

87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

I would not replace any more parts prior to identifying the problem. Throwing parts at it can complicate the diagnostic process. Also, paying a shop to do a diagnostic would be less expensive than all those parts that were replaced. For diagnosing the issue, lets start with this: How bad was...

87’ 350 tbi hot start issue

Were these parts replaced as part of a troubleshooting process, in an attempt to solve the current starting problem?

    Rear end fluid

Ah. Good point, I forgot about the location. I guess the only advantage to having the diff cover off would be to recover metal shavings if you drill out and re-tap the fill plug, or to add a secondary fill plug on the cover.

    broken spark plug

Doesn't sound too serious. Should be able to get it out with the extractor. I recommend watching some YouTube videos on how to use them. They are fairly simple to use, but like any tool it needs to be used properly or you could make the problem worse. As for metal shavings - like others have...

Time traveler with a squarebody. My clock is ticking backwards.

Does time move backwards when your in that truck? Like.... Does your beard get shorter?

    Rear end fluid

The plastic bag thing is an interesting idea. I wonder that other stuff would work. Maybe lift the rear end of the truck or park on a steep "down hill" road. There are also various different types of drain plugs that have valves to stoop the flow. You could pump the fluid into the diff through...

    Rear end fluid

Interesting idea. I supposed that would work. But how would you check the fluid level later? And if you are going to fix the stuck plug, it would be easier to do when the diff cover is off. But still, the ziplock bag thing is an interesting idea. I would not do it if it could be avoided, but I...

I think you need something that is like in the pics shared. Should be cheap and easy to get. Standard equipment on a K5.

K5 canopy side windows that open?

Hey, thanks for the response. What area are you in? Would you sell just the windows? Pricing for whole canopy? Pricing for just the windows? Is shipping an option for either?

    TH400 leak around speedo drive

If that one drop is all that has leaked in the last 30 years, then you don't have a problem. How much fluid are you losing per month?

Truck won’t turn. What’s that sound?

You may already know this, but you can mess a starter up, damage the flywheel, or even break the starter mounting bolt holes right off the engine if you shim it wrong. There is a very specific procedure when shimming, not just guesswork. As long as the starter turns the motor over, that's good...

Truck won’t turn. What’s that sound?

The starter might just be the way that one sounds. Or it could be getting stuck on the flywheel, or maybe something else. But I would start with the engine, because if the engine wont run for more than 1 second, then the starter doesn't matter. Did you try that fuel thing, filling the float bowls?
  21. Chevy 88

Truck won’t turn. What’s that sound?

Sounds like the starter is spinning up / down with the engine. As for starting, I would fill the float bowls through the vents, and then give it a full 2 second shot of starting fluid.
