    Pinion angle and funky Ubolts

Yes. I have a digital angle gauge. I've measured the drive line angles, pinion, and transfer case. Calculated all the working angles. The pinion angle is the one angle that is funky.... about 10 deg pointing up. If i switched the orientation of these blocks and get them center on the perch it...

    Pinion angle and funky Ubolts

it never occurred to me the blocks are angled. The current positioning of the angled blocks is pointing the pinion angle to far up and if i switched the blocks the other direction it should correct the pinion angle.

    Pinion angle and funky Ubolts

The truck in question is a 1982 k30 crew cab with 6In of lift. I've recently been experiencing some vibrations at about 3k + Rpms. The vibrations come on with a pulsation to them. The pulsating vibes directly correspond to an increase in rpm and subsequently decrease as rpm slows. No...

Front driveline angles on a lifted square

I called my local driveline shop and spoke with a tech there who’s got a similar setup in a jeep wagoneer. He suggested doing the same. Swapping in a 1350 double cardan. Out of curiousity what are the angles of your TC, driveline, and pinion? And how fast can you get going before experiencing...

Front driveline angles on a lifted square

I have noticed that the yokes are not in line on the driveshaft or out of phase and that the splines are cut in such a way that I cannot put it back in a phased orientation... so this could this be causing the intense vibration

Front driveline angles on a lifted square

I think i may have mistyped. Yes the transfer case is pointed up 6 degress and the pinion angle is at a 5.5 deg angle but in the other direction. the transfer case is not parellel with the pinion angle.

Front driveline angles on a lifted square

I am curious what other square owners do to remedy harsh front driveline angles when lifting their truck. My truck has a 6in lift, Dana 60, and np 205 tcase. The driveline angle is roughly 19 deg down, The t case is sitting at about 6 deg up, and the pinion is about 5.5deg down. Given these...

What new tools have you got lately?

I’ve got two of these. One I bought new and one from my grandfather. Good tool box that won’t break the bank.

What new tools have you got lately?

Tap and die set from harbor freight. I was a bit overzealous with the impact gun on my pinion nut and gnarled a few threads. Buying this entire set from harbor freight was just about the only way I could get my hands on a 7/8 -14 die the same day. Cleaned the threads without issue and did not...

First time Dana 60 set up

decided to go ahead and adjust pinion depth slightly to see what would happen. Ended up pulling .001 thou out of pinion depth. Backlash now varries between .005 and .008 thou. I want to say I like this pattern slightly more but I’ll see what everybody else thinks.

First time Dana 60 set up

Setting up my first Dana 60 ring and pinion. New carrier. New ring gear and pinion. So far after a lot of trial and error I have achieved the pictured pattern. Pattern seems good to me. Backlash is reading between .006 and .009. Is this pattern what I’m loooking for? Is backlash variation of...

    Lifter tick?

I have a stethoscope and frankly I’m having a heard time isolating the noise. It sounds loudest when touching the head between the headers and valve cover, but I could also be wrong. No flat tappets.

    Lifter tick?

Sbc 383 with a roller cam (#12-422-8) and hydraulic roller lifter (#17-5372-16). Noise is present during cold start and dissipates as engine warms up. No noise is noticed after engine is up to 160+ temp. For reference the motor has less than 5k miles on it and i am using 10w-30 oil and oil...

This morning i go to start my truck and it turns over but wont start. After a couple tries it backfires through the carb (Holley sniper efi). A couple small flames i promptly put out with a rag.
