    305 serious sludge

Around here the oil to avoid was Kendall. I think any oil is it’s neglected long enough will look like that. In this case, it appears the engine was used for short trips where it wasn’t run long enough to get hot, and extended oil change intervals. I personally couldn’t leave that alone. I’d...

Heat soak - your tips and tricks

It’s today’s fuels. Way back when everyone had carbureted vehicles, the refineries added chemicals to the fuel to prevent evaporation. Now, everyone drives vehicles with EFI and sealed fuel systems, the additive to prevent evaporation was an added expense that benefited a tiny percentage of...

    Anybody try AT-205 for leaks?

I can’t stand Scotty Kilmer!! The fact he endorses something makes me question the product. Trying to fix a leak with a seal reconditioner is like putting a band aid on a gunshot wound. If you really want to try it, pour it in following the instructions, drive it a while, if the leak stops...

    1982 c10 window power

I circled the circuit breaker. The pink wire coming out of the bottom of the breaker on the right side is the power feed to the windows. No power? Check the breaker.

That’s the door lock relay. The circuit breaker for the power windows is in the fuse box.

    Turn signal assembly

Cornering lights were found on lots of high end fancy cars. It is easy to add with the correct turn signal switch.

Heat soak - your tips and tricks

What kind of mechanical fuel pump? If it’s just a 2 line setup (supply line from the tank to the pump, and pump to the carb) make the fuel return functional. A factory pump for a truck with A/C will have the fuel return fitting with the tiny orifice in the return line. If it’s a aftermarket...

    My 87 Blazer is Possessed.

As someone mentioned, check A/C voltage. The alternator can have a leaky diode and still charge just fine. However, some of the electronics might not like the noisy A/C voltage. As for the transmission shifting hard: your truck is a 87, with a TV cable. The transmission relies only on the tv...

    700r4 Housing leak.

That’s the mounting point cast into the case for the electrical harness. Originally, it had a self tapping screw threaded into it. Either the hole is drilled deeper than it should be, there is porosity in the case, or someone threaded the wrong screw into the hole and cracked the case...

    TH350C Lockup wiring

My 81 GMC had a 350C, I wired the converter clutch thru the 3rd gear pressure switch to provide a ground when the trans shifted to 3rd gear. I supplied power thru the brake light switch, the converter automatically unlocked when you touched the brakes. It works this way, my family drove the...

1986 K30 bulkhead connector wiring needs replacement.

If you have the connector body, and it’s in good shape, you can buy replacement series 56 and series 59 terminals from American Autowire or Mosier. I know the Electrical Depot sells the series 56 in various wire gauge sizes in bulk very cheaply. GM used the same wire colors for the...

    Th400 Governor

There is a valve in the valve body called the detent regulator. Without getting too technical, when the solenoid is activated, it changes the shift points. For it to do that, the valve body needs to know the difference between WOT, and heavy throttle. As far as the vacuum modulator is concerned...

    Th400 Governor

Do you have the electric kickdown functioning? That will easily add at least a few hundred rpm to the WOT shift points, with zero change to part throttle. If it’s not working, fix that before doing anything else.

    K10 1983 700r4 installation help needed

The most important tip I can offer: make SURE the converter is fully seated in the pump before tightening the bellhousing bolts!! Slowly tighten the bellhousing bolts, while occasionally stopping to make sure the converter will spin. If at any time the converter locks solid before the...

    "Monster" brand TH350?

I have had a couple experiences with Monster, it’s my opinion if they had spent half the money on customer service and a little research as the did on advertising, they would be a much better company. Many years ago, a guy brought a C6 to build for his 70 Country Squire station wagon with a...

    Th400 Governor

Keep in mind, while the weight is important, WHERE the weight is in relation to the pivot is more important. The rule of thumb: use the weights to get the shift points close, change the springs to fine tune. Read this...

    Th400 Governor

Get a couple spare govonors and the govonor tuning kit. They should be easy and cheap to find. Install one, then the other, and carefully document the shift points. If you’re happy, great! If not, prepare yourself for lots of trial and error. Read the instructions on the govonor calibration...

    Old school locksmith??

Anyone in readerland who know someone who can work with the old lock cylinders? The console on my son’s 92 Yukon has never locked, and now the latch is stuck. I have sprayed a bunch of graphite lock lube inside, hoping it just had a tumbler stuck, with zero luck The only “locksmiths” in this...

    neutral-start switch question

That’s exactly what it’s for. Some features (like power lift gate release) won’t work unless the ignition is on, and the shifter is in park. Other applications use that terminal as an input to the ecm for park.

Wanting to add factory power locks

It’s an easy but time consuming swap. I did it many years ago on my 81 GMC. The original power door lock setup on the early trucks used a 5 wire switch. It was much more difficult to wire and troubleshoot if problems occurred. It’s difficult to explain how exactly the circuit works, but...

Optimal engine temperature for max HP?

Actually, engine masters did test this exact question. If I remember correctly, they found around 135-140 degrees coolant temp, but oil as hot as possible gave the best power. I just recently rewatched that episode, I’ll see if I can find it.

    What are these wires?

The plug (cruise control lever) in the first picture plugs into the second socket (cruise control harness) in the second picture. Neither has anything to do with the wipers.
