    Transmission swap questions

Tail shaft lengths require different driveshaft lengths, crossmember may sit in different position, connectors, linkage, lots of things could be an issue. Need more info.

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

For anyone who may not get what I mean, he explains it better than me typing it out.

    Chuck’s engine build thread!

Very nice! Just a tip to make first start easy. Set her about 15 adv and she should fire as soon as it sees fuel saves a lot of playing around then adjust from there. Good luck. Note: mine wouldn't fire till almost 30 adv.

    Temperature hunting at stop lights

The core construction and layout will definitely make a difference 2 wide cores vs 4 narrow cores in the same overall space. Air and water flow/turbulence will make these work entirely different. I've found if their 2 core is the same thickness as their 3 and 4 core rads the lesser cores might...

    Need a hood measurement please.

Mines 69.5 at the front and 69.75 at the back. It doesn't touch anywhere but is closer on the driver side and the gaps are wider up front probably due to the 1/4" width difference front to rear. But my new fenders are lined up perfect with the doors and body lines so no biggie, also it's getting...

    BBC 489 build

Looking good, She'll scream for sure. I went to a toothed belt setup because mine kept tossing the V belts and spinning/squealing 6 rib serpentine style belts. Also, that 850 may want a lot of jet.

    BBC 489 build

That's always how it goes I was deep into my 388 when a brand new fully forged 489 short block popped up for less than I had in my build at the time.

    Temperature hunting at stop lights

Mine doesn't go over 180 but it floats between 170-180 with a 160 T stat but it's also a 388 with 11.5:1. 170 driving around 25-65mph but at a stop light or sitting in the lot idling it jumps to 180 and stays there but as soon as I start moving and get that air pushing into that brick of a front...

    Temperature hunting at stop lights

Stock gages are not accurate more of a close enough. Gives you an idea of what's normal and when something is starting to go wrong. Even my Auto meter gauges float around 10 degrees, sitting in traffic vs driving etc.

    quick ratio steering box

I'm running the Borgeson box and the Holly steering shaft makes driving one handed while busy running the trans brake line lock and/or shifter a much smoother experience.

    Free 383 for Blaze

My bad forgot he had the 76 cc heads and yes that would be the route I'd go add a summit roller for under 400 a set of link bar lifters and some pushrods all in around a 1-1.5k using the other heads and roller tip rockers off the current heads. Sell the unused parts or trade for a dual plane...

    Free 383 for Blaze

250+ duration is going to run like hell under 3k add 11:1 onto that and you have close to my 388 91-93 octane only and idling/driving part throttle especially off road it's not going to be fun. That cam has such big duration to allow that high of a CR to run on pump gas even if it is premium and...

Dropping my Stock '74 Stepper - Need Advice

Not a short box or a stepper however 26" tall tire up front a 28" tall tire in the rear 2.5" spindle up front and an axle flip. I had a drop spring in the front, but it sat too low and had very little room to compress. I went back to a stock spring. next time I put tires in the front I think I'm...

    Free 383 for Blaze

Just an option. Upgraded version of your current head with a 72cc chamber setup for flat tappet with .490 lift, 2.02 valves, and accessory holes. They are cast iron but unless you want to spend twice as much these would drop you down to a better compression range for pump gas...

    Free 383 for Blaze

It is currently 11:1 roughly. He needs to get down around 9.5-10:1 the bigger chamber will work unless he has about 1k in extra cash to get an aftermarket set. Also a cam in the 220-225 duration should not need a converter.

    Free 383 for Blaze

Just off a rough calculation with zero deck 64 cc head .30 over 383 and a rough estimate of gasket thickness and bore comes up 11..2 :1. With a 76cc head will lower it to 9.9 roughly.

Who knows auto insurance? Ins outs loopholes

Liability only covers damage you cause to others and at a minimum at that. Also, without a sighted party to go after your screwed because even if you have info for the person who hit you, their insurance will most likely deny it as they were not sited. This maybe one where the owner is going to...

    BBC Clam Shells

The engine side has two heights the short one is the typical SBC/BBC. Using the taller one in a square will result in the engine side spacing being too wide ie. about 3/4 inch wider than the frame mounts. If I remember correctly the taller mounts are for F bodies Trans Am, Firebird, and...

    Drip edge Replacements

You can pop the chrome piece off with like a bottle opener if not worried about damaging it and roll on the new chrome pieces. It's 2 piece a rail screwed to the roof and a trim that snaps on over it. Not a square but shows how it pops off with a bottle opener. Need to swap the passenger...

    Free 383 for Blaze

The Z part number comes up as an old comp custom lobe of 250@50 with 501 lift on a 110 lobe sep which if it is 11:1 makes sense as it would be an older lower lift version of my 388 cam. its gonna be a race/bracket cam that's gonna want a 3k stall converter idle fairly rough and is gonna need...

Unusual way to bleed brakes. Just might help someone.

I don't see why it wouldn't, you basicly just swaped what's applying the pressure to force out the air. Pump the pedal to push air into caliper, crack the line use pressure on piston to force out air, tighten line, repeat.
