@Ricko1966 was right. After I cleaned up the bloodbath and let the thread sealant dry, I noticed a weep from the choke pressure switch. New part installed, and a quick cruise before it’s parked for the oncoming rain tomorrow. I leave in a couple days for mountain biking in Moab, UT. -

The guy at the hot rod shop down the road had a set of the new Vision/summit brand rallies in 15x10 for the back of his square for drag radials. Not the same as 20” wheels, but man, in person they looked so much better. That and 15-20 lbs lighter than the same tire on a stock 15x8 steel rally. -

That’s true, especially in the summer. Once the rain starts falling, the bay turns from blue to greyish-brown with the sediment from the watersheds. Thanks for the compliment! Someday when I stop messing with mechanicals, I want to have it redone in that same color. -

Thankfully that 5” drop in the front really helps. Before I lowered it, I had the unpleasant experience of standing on a stool and have it slide out from under my feet. If it wasn’t passenger car height, I’d definitely have one of those. -

IMHO, planning and preparation absolutely count. And since it does, I’m constantly doing something with my square. -
Nobody warned me about the MPGs on these square bodies!
Since mine is a street cruiser with a mild engine, I’ve never looked at anything but the fuel gauge to make sure I’m safe to get back home. On with the weekend. Work ended early, so I picked kiddo up from school and got some burgers for a treat. We haven’t been to a burger stand in a while. It was fun listening to the 60s music and doing some education on 60’s restaurant font. -

Spent a lot of time looking at what I have on the new cylinder heads, and I’ve decided I’m going to stick with the plan and go with the Extreme Energy 274 flat tappet cam. I know the ramps are a bit sharp and they make a little more noise but the characteristics are exactly what I want. Turns... -

I hear ya. I’ll wait to make my final decision when I pull the cam. If it’s close enough to what I’m aiming for, I’ll just keep it. The only undesirable thing about converting to rollers is obviously the cost. But the cost of screwing something up with a flat tappet cam is likely a total...- ChuckN

What pushrod length checker to start with on SBC?
Flat tappet. I’ve heard horror stories, but apparently if you use the original GM performance that’s with the hardened foot, they tend to survive better. While I’m at it, do you have any other helpful hints for start up procedure? Cam would theoretically be XE 274 comp cam. Just under .500 lift...- ChuckN

What pushrod length checker to start with on SBC?
There’s multiple lengths out there and I know there’s probably no one answer. A quick search revealed that a 6.8-7.8” would likely cover it, but thought I might hear from those who know the best starting point. Thanks in advance.- ChuckN
