How to change clutch pedal bushings

My bushings weren’t half as bad as my steel sleeves. Which are 7/16. ID by 9/16 OD and 2 3/4” long. Luckily I found two on eBay, generically. The bushings fit over the sleeves. I found the bushings stocked at two parts store, too. I also had a lot of wear on my long clutch rod inside the...

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

Forgot to say, I’d just remove the driveshaft while I figured out whether I liked the results of the experiment

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

Thanks, I should have explained: I’d remove the driveshaft so as not to forget and drive it with two different ratios. I do understand how it’s possible to go too high on ratio, but I’m also using mathematics to get the engine-to- wheel ratio. I multiply the transmission gear ratio by the...

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

Tha Thanks, I’ll write that down and file it, the NV4500s are getting hard to find, is that why you used the AR5? Or because they matched up?

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

Thanks, I forgot to say I like my 30” original tires, I forgot the numbers, so your experience with your 3:54 is very helpful. Maybe I’ll use 3:73. There aren’t many used 14 bolts with 3:73s I hear but I can put them in myself.

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

I say go for it. We can all live vicariously thru the the OP's discovery. An LS for the heck of it and a 14 bolt with 2.50 gears! Subscribed.:popcorn::popcorn: Thanks, I’ve seen a couple YouTube vids on LS swaps which sure did motivate me, but one big reason I got this 79 was to have...

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

Thanks, what year is your truck with the LS? Maybe I should get one of those. Mileage, especially on the highway is what I need. I don’t understand the comments about lugging it from going to taller gears, since with say the 2:73 I’d just be using first for second instead of for granny. And...

    SM465 X 2.5 gears

If I replace my 4:10 differential gears with 2.5s, I think I get the same engine-to-wheel ratio as a lot of five speed manuals or 4 speed automatics. Id still have low from the NP205 transfer case. I’ve got a 1979 3/4 ton with a 14 bolt rear end. I’ve heard of swapping in 3.73s, has anyone...

    4:10 Gear swap?

If I put my 1979 in first and Low4 it goes about the speed I walk. They feed cows without anyone driving, just tie the steering wheel. I like my SM465 and the NP205 T-case and got to thinking if I swapped the diff gears to say, about 2.5, that would make my 4th in the SM465 like a 5th on a...

    Rear disc conversion plumbing fyi

You may be right. I heard rear discs are the norm on new cars now, do they have hoses on the rears? Braided stainless hoses are more available without the banjo, so I can use the adapter to get a shorter hose. At least on the left side with the short axle. Most of the hoses I see online...

    Rear disc conversion plumbing fyi

Doing my 14 bolt disc conversion I kept wondering why everybody was saying I needed to use hoses at the calipers’ banjo fitting. I considered going to the wreckers to find a banjo fitting with a few inches of 3/16 tube on it, to flare for a brake ( inverted flare) fitting. But a search...

Upgrade master cylinder with a disc brake conversion?

Thanks, I got the valve LugNut had with the conversion kit I got from them. It only works one line, the rear. I decided I wanted it up by the master cylinder, where the ABS module would be if I had abs. So I ran new lines, which was a challenge as I had to perfect my double flaring. But I...

    Brake pedal shaft removal

BTW, the end I cut off was U shaped and in a 1/4” hole, not a notch. So I don’t know how else it could have been removed, short of removing the dash and other things. That spring is made of 1/4” rod

    Brake pedal shaft removal

Thanks, I noticed that spring was not expanding or contracting when the pedal moved, and it moved a lot after I backed way off the fork adjuster. So I decided to replace it with a smaller spring I can deal with. I cut the end off it with a 4” grinder, and yeah it really snapped hard when it...

    Brake pedal shaft removal

Problem solved, I cut the spring end off, and took the spring out. No other pedals I ever saw had a spring there, much less one with at least 1/4 metal. I’ll put a lighter spring back in. The shaft lost its sideways pressure so it slid right out, and I can replace the clutch pedal bushings...

    Brake pedal shaft removal

My 79 brake pedal needs new bushings but the shaft, which also has the clutch pedal on it, hits the big clutch spring when I slide it back. The shaft is actually a bolt and the bolt head hits the spring. Can’t get the spring to come off, I pulled on it with vice grips but it’s stronger than I...

    Brake pedal shaft removal

My 79 brake shaft needs new bushings, so I took the crush nut off the shaft that the clutch and brake pedals attach to, but the shaft can’t move back the 3” I need it to move, to get the brake pedal off, because it hits the big clutch spring. I tried putting vice grips on the end of that...

    Axle won’t go back in

Thanks, got it. All I had to do was put the wheel on the ground two feet back, sit on it, put a pair of cotton gloves on and let my inner zen master take over.

    Axle won’t go back in

79 full float GM 14 bolt, took one axle out to work on the brakes and now it’s not going back in. Stops about three inches back, about the length of the splines. Been trying pushing down and in at the same time, no luck. Rotate it often. Any suggestions greatly appreciated

How to measure 14 bolt drum?

Yes, the calipers they gave me wouldn’t go over the rotors, so I kept their rotors, exchanged the calipers.

How to measure 14 bolt drum?

Thanks, not sure what a max diameter spec is. I do recall you saying yours was a one ton and I’m pretty sure those didn’t come with 11” ID drums. I just meant to say, since my 11” drums, shoes, cylinders were all toast, I figured I’d go bigger, and that I may as well go disc since it was...

How to measure 14 bolt drum?

If the Dana 44 only came with one rotor diameter ( 12.5”) then that’s likely what happened. I told them I had a K20 and that I had a Dana 44

Upgrade master cylinder with a disc brake conversion?

I meant all the disc/disc ones work for any disc/disc vehicle, or so it seems anyway.

Upgrade master cylinder with a disc brake conversion?

Thanks, parts guy told me most replacements aren’t available and like you said they get swapped out for adjustable, mostly. There are lots of good options, Lugnut has the disc/ disc, so does Wilwood and Inlinetubing, others. They all work for all disc/disc apps

Upgrade master cylinder with a disc brake conversion?

T Rhanks, I’ll see if the 91 works on a 79, ask the parts guy
