Scores from DIY Parts Yards, Pull A Part, U Pull It etc

My Dad and I have found the 90s vintage GM port fuel injectors are done right around 200K miles (though the Multi-Tec 1 injectors can be even worse). The wife's '96 Century (we bought new) is now at 202K, but still running well. Got a 2 mile junkyard walk in yesterday and found an obviously...

Looking at 92 Yukon for my son

"It turns on, but the volume/tuner buttons don’t do anything" Most likely the CDM (Control Data Module, i.e. tuner and amp) above the gas pedal. All the weird GM radios used this '88-'95, and it was mounted to the top of some standard 1.5 DIN chassis) GM finally had these perfected and reliable...

    Looking at a 1983 GMC w/ a cadillac 500 motor

Standard for DeVilles from '75 - '76, but available eariler, IIRC. Be aware that the Cadillac 368, 425, 472 and 500 are all the same engine family. It could be easy for someone to mistake (knowingly and unknowingly) a smaller displacement for a 500, especially after a swap.

    Dual carburetors on 250 I-6?

The Chevy 6 (194,230,250,292) is a terrible flowing head (non-integral) on the intake side by design. It has only 4 intake ports, with boss' in the middle of 2 of them that the head bolts pass through. There are 'lump port' kits that look a lot like the floor of the V6 intake ports shown above...

4th small hole in late model clusters?

Someone posted a pic of a later one with a volt (battery) symbol in one, there may have been others in the hole too. I believe it was an the electronic speedo version. Not sure what it would take to search for it.

Great! Glad to see them get some love.

Looking into a new compact car.

That appeared early in the life of GDI, but it doesn't appear to be the complete fix either. IIRC, some are even running MPFI and GDI because of the Low Speed Detonation issue that can destroy engines with GDI.. The engine can operate in either mode or combinations, just like valve timing...

Looking into a new compact car.

With fuel prices down, I've been seeing a lot of rust free ones showing up in the wrecking yards here again. ☹

Looking into a new compact car.

I see the Forte is still available with a 6 speed. It has a 4mpg penalty in fuel economy over the auto. It looks like the Rio doesn't even offer one, and gets the same highway mileage as the larger car. I noticed both the Hyundai and Kia dealers here usually kept an Elantra and Forte on the lot...

Looking into a new compact car.

Speaking of interior room, I believe the Elantra / Forte border on mid size by interior room. It is so close in exterior size to the '92 blue Century I was shocked. My little girl is so happy and takes care of it. She drove the Century for 4 years.

Looking into a new compact car.

I thought so too, and I've been shopping quite a while, since we had the luxury of time. The other dealer had some LXS versions in the low 16s. They started playing games and my daughter wanted a light color, so we got the 'cheap one'. Tried to buy one through the Costco buyer program. I wasn't...

Looking into a new compact car.

Bought my daughter a new 2020 Kia Forte FE this summer. My first non-GM car ever (nor will there be a new GM car again). She loves it and exceptionally well equipped, even in the base Fuel Efficient version (41mpg highway, she has hit 43mpg). Even has frontal collision braking standard. Still...

    Bumper guards

Well, I got mine out and it reminded me they are driver quality (which was fine with me) and 48 years old (I even noted a '73 in them.) I have made no attempt to clean them up and they do come with the lower bracket needed. The rubber pads are surprisingly good and secure. I'm certain they...

New truck, trying to understand its molestation - carb/intake

Is that mixture control solenoid the wrong color for the truck, i.e. a car version vs. the rich/lean only version for a truck? I could be wrong being this is an '86.

    Bumper guards

The shape of the bumper changes from '81 on. Not quite sure how different they are. I have a very nice set from here in the desert off a '73. I was going to put them on mine but might sell them.

    LS Swap AC Location

It is a strange phenomenon. It is intriguing to me that some vehicles can have such a problem and others to not.

    LS Swap AC Location

In case anyone wonders, I've always got a noticeable 'boom' from the dash after the compressor was running for a few seconds after the car was sitting for a while. Clicking it on and off a couple or three times eliminates the issues (with my particular car when it has the issue). It can't be a...

    LS Swap AC Location

You can get compressor 'slugging' with low mounted compressors. Truth be told, some GM vehicles did it with high mounted compressors too, like my old B-body (Caprice). There are aftermarket fixes for the most trouble prone...

    Tilt steering question

You do need the tilt column switch. As you've found out, they work backwards. The reason being is the rod from the lock assembly moves in the opposite direction between the two columns.
