1985 Scottsdale V6 - Choke Light coming on at idle

Low oil pressure, fix the idle issue and verify the oil pressure. The oil pressure switches go bad with age too, not to be confused with the oil pressure sending unit, if you have gauges.

    Help with my 95 olds

There are plastic elbows on the back side of 3800s for the heater hose(s) that are notorious for leaking. There are some aluminum replacement available too. Even the o-rings are an issue, from what I understand...

Help, truck tries to start when I connect the battery

Welcome! This probably isn't the issue, but be aware that the ignition switch is different between tilt and non-tilt columns. The wiring is identical. The reason the switches are different is the tilt mechanism causes the switch rod to move in the opposite direction. I had to see this one for...

FINALLY installing vortec 350. Mechanical fuel pump?

On pressurizing a mechanical pump, even if it works, you run the risk of the pump diaphragm rupturing. Then it is fuel in the crankcase. This happens at times with mechanical pumps alone. I'd be afraid to try it with the crap parts we have right now, and the fuel and rubber issues.

buick 455 big block in a 1980 gmc 1500 rwd pickup

"spun a bearing on my original so popped in my second buick. the one thing i dont like about these is the oiling system. but they sure are torque monsters" The Buick oiling system left a lot to be desired, it was even worse with the harmonics and roughness when made into a 90 degree V6 back in...

    Opinions on Radiator Usability

Even by the era of ours, the baffle was still used even with the V08 heavy duty cooling option. I can't say I have seen the wider radiator used after 1979 (engine sizes decreased for 1980), but the diesels may have been an exception. My original radiator got so it would not flow air! There was...

    Opinions on Radiator Usability

Keep in mind the amount of debris that can be in a transmission cooler can be staggering. We picked up a nearly new radiator (amazing how many nearly new parts are on junked cars) for my daughters car from our U-Pull-It yard with black transmission fluid, pretty obvious why the car was...

    Opinions on Radiator Usability

My assumption is that is an original Harrison radiator. The original petcocks are pointed down (there is a matching hole in the radiator support) and were no mess to drain. I've only seen that on the originals. I don't have any original dimensions for the radiator (I replaced mine in '91 with a...

OEM air cleaner size/dimensions for 1983 GMC pickup?

FWIW... The Rochester 2G was was only available on a corporate blue ('78 - '82) 305 small block in 1978. The dual jet was standard in '79 and only 4bbls from '80 - '82. Of course, anything is possible to swap around.

    Speedometer Cable Discovery!

I take the 'Made in Mexico' as a good sign too. Probably still from OEM production.

    Speedometer Cable Discovery!

That's good to know. Parts are such a problem now, especially when everything you own is obsolete, from defunct companies that spun off and bankrupted their suppliers first before their own pseudo/phony bankruptcies. Good lunch! My lunch yesterday!

An HEI could make an old Ford 6 nearly maintenance free for hundreds of thousands of miles :)

Convert crew cab to have rear A/C?

Just make sure you use anything but an R4 compressor.

A Couple of JY Oddities (at least to me)

Saw this '76 Sierra Grande (half ton) a little while back. While the aftermarket A/C looked like any other under the hood, (York compressor, cumbersome bracket and adjustment, undersized condenser), it was the 'control head' that caught my eye; Rotary knob is a thermostat and the standard...

    '87 R20 AC Recharge

I believe there were more changes again for 609 Certification for 2018, as HFO1234yf and CO2 (talk about inefficient) become reality. The march always continues on in the name of the environment via increased regulation, expenses and taxes, particularly with refrigeration.

    '87 R20 AC Recharge

"You will have to dump the remaining R12 before anything else is done. You can legally release it to atmosphere, but certified shops cannot" I'd like to point out that venting any refrigerant is a $10K fine per occurrence for anyone. There have been idiots that were stealing outside...

    Economy TBI for 292

I appreciate that, but I think I'm good for now. I have collected a few, and do have a '95 TBI V6 MEMCAL which gives me at least one appropriate CALPAK for limp home. My dilemma right now is whether I want to go TunerPro RT or Tunercat. I have a MPFI idea on the horizon for the Caprice (still...

    G30 van question

I'm at a complete loss on both these. I didn't think that style choke made it out of the 70s in the Chevrolet division.

    Economy TBI for 292

Finally getting around to building my economy TBI for my 292 L6. Got the manifold and a throttle body. In case that unit looks small, it is. This is the 2.8/3.1 V6 unit. With the original 1bbl being only rated at 250 CFM, I think the smaller unit is more appropriate for a stock 292. I...

    Bed swap compatibility

Last year without filler doors is '78, but I would be concerned about all the running changes, especially with a '73. With that said, I don't know.

New guy in OH, bought my second truck in 3 months! (Help?)

Wow! The '85 is really nice, though I am partial to your '79. I thought the '85s were all ready rusted when I left Ohio in '84!

    1994 tbi 350 swap

That does look like nice stuff at good prices. I've been building mine myself. I'll have to take some pics if I finish it today. My donor harness was a '93 dual A/C Surburban. Talk about extra wiring to remove! This is what I started with; Unless you love this sort of thing (like me), Larry's...

    Trans fluid change

Absolutely! Seems like some are already on the filter pipe, as you have seen, and others will be in the package, ready to install. Some people can do a lot of damage to the bore trying to get the old seal out. Forgetting an o-ring (T400) or the seal (700R4) on the filter can be a memorable...
