Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

It very well could be because I tend to have to do everything twice and I only did that once. Is this a possible failure mode for this kind of carb? I figured the bowl could only fill from the needle side. How would the wrong gasket or gasket orientation cause the bowl to overfill?

Quick Fuel / Holley leakage around needle

I’m trying to figure out where I went wrong in life, and figure one of you Holley experts can help. I rebuilt a 600 CFM vac secondary carb from quick fuel. Holley style. New everything including extensive soak in cleaner. The secondary fuel bowl fills and ultimately shoots out of the vent...

    Poll: Ported v Manifold Vacuum...

At WOT, manifold vacuum drops to a negligible level…and so does your vacuum advance. On the other hand, as rpm increases, your mechanical advance inside the distributor adds timing. The debate about manifold vs ported vacuum is way more about idle quality and off idle performance. My...

    Q jet to Edelbrock 1406

Same, and I certainly intended no condescension. It’s more an emergency so you don’t fry your tranny due to ignorance about the TV cable, which you never named and so I figured you had the wrong idea.

    Q jet to Edelbrock 1406

The kick down cable shouldn’t determine what gear you start in. It tells the transmission to kick down (or hold the lower gear) during hard acceleration or passing. Are you sure it’s not a 700R4 transmission and you are messing with the TV cable? That would be consistent with the button press...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Well… shoot. Turned out only one or two valves were a little loose, so I went through and adjusted all. Now I’m pretty sure my motor is bad. I took a chance on it. Long story less long: installed a new cam a couple years ago, but never did the break in. Ended up in storage for quite a while...

When to stop trying to fix all body imperfections?

Jrgunn has it right. Look around in person at things… you will feel better about a few imperfections. One caution: don’t compare your work to online pictures. The internet makes paint jobs look way better than they actually are. Most of those rebuild shows do really shoddy work that the...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Here’s a weird one: you can see from the video above that the motor was responsive to throttle after break in. Well, I have started the motor a few times since (just can’t help myself) and it has progressively gotten more and more cantankerous. I figure it was carb tuning and was battling a...

    79 C10 Inline 6 Replacement

Economical would be to just upgrade the existing motor. You would have to drive quite a bit to justify an engine swap on economics.

    Dana 60 axle play

Still haven’t done the springs, but did put the wheels on and take a short drive around the neighborhood. The brake, axle, and hydro boost work seems to be great. A long way to go but figured I’d post about the first drive since all the axle work. (I do have a bed to put on).

    '81 K30 4X4, 454 Exhaust Manifolds....time for headers ?

Only trucks I’m putting headers on these days are ones I plan to sell. I think I have arrived at the “you’re too old” phase of loudness tolerance. That said I have driven thousands of miles on a set of summit stainless headers and they look fantastic and haven’t been a leakage problem.

    Intermittent shutoff

Just posting for info. I had a similar issue with stop / no start in my 85 a year or so ago. It would stop when hot, then restart…then progressively got to the point where it would not restart warm. I changed the ignition module and thought I fixed it. The issue came back and it ended up being...

    Gas to diesel

To be fair, a 2 stroke engine should punch way above its displacement compared to a 4 stroke. While not an exact science the doubling of power strokes per rpm makes a big difference. It’s essentially like a boosted vs unboosted comparison.

    '82 GMC no-start issue

Voltmeter is good but won’t solve this. It will show volts but not amperage capacity. The answer is in the grounds. The moment the high amp draw hits, the ground is fizzing out. Could be the positive cable to the starter but unlikely since you’ve removed and replaced the starter. Trace your...

    Defroster without AC

Without vacuum doesn’t the Squarebody system default to defrost? Been a while since I ran one without the vac line but I thought that was pretty standard. I might be misremembering my old ford. If that’s the case, your just need the blend door to be in the hot position, which is a mechanical...

    1978 k30 hydroboost

You can get a reman for quite a bit less than that, especially if you exchange a core. I rebuilt mine with new seals and didn't find it to be a difficult job, but I'm equipped for it. All that said, I'm betting this is the master cylinder, and those are not expensive for this era truck. A...

    1978 k30 hydroboost

Uh; $3,000 for a master cylinder? More like $75 bucks and 15 bucks of brake fluid. Pedal doesn’t go to the floor because of a bad hydro boost. There’s a mechanical link from the brake pedal to the master cylinder that the hydro boost only amplifies. That’s either a busted brake line, a...

    1976 C20 AC Pressure Switch

If it’s the high pressure side, and you put a low pressure switch on it, then the switch will never really do anything. It’s made to open when pressure gets low. I would think that’s a high pressure switch, meant to open when pressure gets too high. But again, I don’t recognize your setup...

    1976 C20 AC Pressure Switch

Yep I used the wrong terminology. I am no ac tech and had just referred to the silver can as a receiver drier. It’s the ac accumulator! Low pressure side. And it’s where the low pressure switch usually is. The OP looks to have a switch on the high pressure side. Putting a low pressure switch...

    1976 C20 AC Pressure Switch

The systems I’m familiar with only have a low pressure switch that shuts off the compressor when pressure drops too low on the suction side. It is normally on the receiver/dryer as you note. It mounts on a schrader valve. I’m not familiar with your setup in the picture. Looks like a liquid...

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

turns out my oil pressure gauge (electronic) was hit or miss on contact. Got in there and tightened the connection, started up again at 60 psi. 8 seconds of running. Not quite purring yet but running nice w open headers, and I have a long way to go before I worry about tuning it.

Oh yeah. I’m well aware. I just didn’t like how it behaved today. We’ll see. Good news is it ran and revved nicely.

80 C10 "Nemo" Build - Started as: Front frame buckled…

Made some progress on brakes, core support, and hoses. I did fluid fills, wired up the engine temporarily and did cam break in today. Ran ok. Oil pressure dropped slowly as she warmed up so I have something to look out for. I kept an old filter on it so I’m hopeful it was a flow issue or just...

Let's talk one man brake bleeder

At this point I have tried them all. Right now my favorite is a compressor driven vacuum bleeder. I have one from harbor freight. As long as you have good air supply to it, you can set it and let it suck for a while… it pulls all the fluid through and I’ve had good results on pedal feel. I have...
