Can't get rid of play in the steering

Bought a K10 last weekend that had a lot of play in the steering. Seller said that all the steering components are good. He thought maybe the steering box was bad. I got under there and had someone turn the steering wheel back and forth. Immediately saw that both front and rear drag links were...

    Front shocks still too squishy...help.

Few years ago, I replaced the front shocks on my 67 c30. I'd swear that they were the original, factory installed ones. They zero resistance at all. Wow, what a difference.

K30 DRW Brake Drum Removal HELP!!!

Stopped by a buddy's house years ago. He was not the best mechanic, but at least he tried. He was trying to get the rear drum off of his pickup. Said that he's been beating on it for a while and it still won't come off. Had it halfway off. At a glance, I knew what the issue was. So, I went and...

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

I will say one thing though. Nothing but quality, useful stuff is in my garage. No bicycles, no garden/yard stuff, there's the shed for that. No storage of anything not auto/truck related. I once asked the owner of a large, successful weld/fab shop how he keeps the place so clean and organized...

    84 GMC 6500 "Hydroboost" Leaking

Had a 1 ton service truck with the hydroboost. Had nothing but problems with it. Even took it to a local gmc truck dealership and asked them to fix it. Got charged good money only to be told that there is nothing wrong with it. But there was nothing right about it. I sold the truck.

    Slip yoke leak

I'm having the same thing on an 85 Silverado I did not know that this vent existed. I'll look and see if that's the cause.

Suggestions on replacement brake calipers, pads, and rotors

Some parts stores will ask if you want new or remanufactured parts. I always go for new. Higher priced but..... Go buy your stuff at a local store. That way, if you have issues, they are right there. And don't buy the cheap brake pads or shoes. Spend the money and get the best.

Please remind me where these old/removed parts go on an ‘83 K5.

Are those fender to cab seals?

Thanks for the reply's. It's very good to be here. Lots of good stuff and better reading than a Harlequinn romance novel.

    LMC C20 Exhaust

Bought from LMC for my 67 c30 with 157" wheelbase straight six, manual trans. Of course, there is no listing for that, so I bought a system for c20 longbed. Had to put a longer piece of straight pipe in there. Lots of room under this truck. Fitment was no issue. That was fifteen years ago. Price...

What new tools have you got lately?

Bought a stud welder from Harbor. Have not used it yet. Has decent reviews. And I'm not using it commercially, so it should last.

The administration people over there are very slow. They don't return emails. Be patient. They will get around to you when they feel like it.

Biggest jobs you have completed in the shortest amount of time.

Used to be able to swap engines in about four hours, casually. Now, it takes a couple of weeks and I need assistance getting up off the creeper.

    Whatcha do with that...?

In years past, when I usually had five different projects going at once, I kept everything. Now, it's one project at a time and get rid of the leftovers when done. Sure, I keep performance goodies around. I just don't have the space, want nor willingness to have a bunch of crap taking up my...

    Let’s see your memorabilia?!

You may call it memorabilia, but when you get older and it starts taking up valuable space in your garage, you will call it by another name.

    Brakes

I would look into replacing the rubber flex brakeline at the rear. I've seen it many times where the old rubber hose collapses on the inside. Symptoms could be weird **** going on when trying to bleed them. Or the pedal will push the fluid into the wheel cylinders but not let it flow back which...

    Rust removal

Evaporust and all of the rust converters are great stuff. A mere twenty years ago, there was no such thing. One old to do it is to go to a feed store and get the molasses. I think they feed it to horses. IDK. Anyway, a diluted solution of this will do the same thing. But it's really stinky.

    Vibration

If there is a rag joint in the steering shaft, it may be pushed too far forward causing steel on steel bump.
