I've been a square body fan/owner for the last 40ish years. I like the simplicity of the pre-1980 variety and round headlights. My latest treasure is a 1979 K-10 Scottsdale short bed with a slightly modified 350 backed by a manual transmission and stepside bed.

My son had just gotten it together and drivable, when he took his last ride on his Road King. Long story short, I purchased it from his estate to preserve for his son who was just 1 year old when he passed. My son always had a passion for square body trucks and held title to 4 when he left us.

One of these gems was purchased from his estate by his band mate and good friend. He bought the 1983 Silverado K-10 short fleetside that we are currently trying to get running lights and headlights to work on. This forum came up on a google search with some sound advice.

I'm not a mechanic by trade, but have grown up having to repair all my vehicles from time to time. I welcome any/all advice offered. Even being in my 60s, I'm always learning.

Welcome from the Texas Panhandle.
That truck has good bones.

I'm sorry to hear of your son's passing.
Thank you for the warm welcome. I wish my '79 was a Texas truck. It's got a little thinning of the frame over the rear axle that needs to be addressed. For east coast trucks, unfortunately, frame rot is the norm.

The loss of my son at 23 was quite crushing, but I'm a firm believer that God has a plan for everyone. I'm not super religious and don't push my beliefs on others, but my faith gives me piece of mind and the ability to endure life's challenges.

Welcome aboard, there's a good group of folks here. Sorry for your loss, a father should never have to bury a son. Hopefully this truck will be a way to keep his memory alive and be a good thing to put your time and effort into. That's what my truck was after my divorce, a good project to keep me sane.
