I've used them in cars and like them. My fear in a truck the quicker ratio delivers less steering torque so it depends on what you intend to use truck for mostly

It’s kind of like no power steering if you are used to the factory. Less turns lock to lock, I prefer the two finger old style. Not inexpensive either way, my frame was cracked near the pump, look close BTW

I have one for my c20 project but it's not on the truck yet. My wife has one in the Mustang and it's nice, feels more responsive but needs a bit more effort like 3 fingers instead of 2.

A friend of mine is using it (about 2 weeks) and so far he likes it a lot.

I put one in my 2wd Suburban. I replaced a leaking/loose rebuilt one with about 20k on it. It is definitely tighter than the box
I replaced. Steering response is better also.

One of the few things I wouldn’t want to change for the better is how well 70s/80s power steering works. Speaking for trucks primarily.
Simple, super effective and frankly better than some PS systems I’ve dealt with on newer trucks.
Hard to turn down 1 finger steering, not moving in a big block 4x4 with big mudders.

I purchased a Borgeson myself but haven't installed it yet, I like the feel of stiff power steering so hope I like it... I also bought an Autofab steering box slash frame reinforcement, kind of a little know secret out there unless you really reasearch.... Nutshell its a BOLT ON frame/steering box bracket/stiffener for frames that ARE NOT already cracked its a work of art IMHO.... It allegedly prevents the frame from getting the death cracks around the box from oversize tires/wheel combinations then needing the "weld in" frame repair kit...

Instead of starting a new thread I thought I would add to this one.
I just did a Borgeson QR steering box install along with the Borgeson u-joint lower shaft.
So far, I love it. It feels great. It is noticeably quicker and more responsive. It doesn't really feel stiffer, just tighter.
I'm digging the heck out of it.

I regret not doing that. I sent my stock box off to AGR in Texas to be rebuilt. Just a stock rebuild was half the cost of that Borgeson. Once they evaluated the box, they asked if I wanted the flow valve changed so it would be less 1-fingery and feel more like a modern truck. That was more $ and they could have made it quick ratio but that would've made it more expensive than the Borgeson, so I passed. In the end, I ended up within ~$75 of the Borgeson, should've just done that.

I put the Borgeson box on my build, the stock box was trash.
Hope to get to try it soon

It has been a couple of years since this post but I am hoping to still get a reply on your observations and advice concerning the Borgeson Quick Ratio Box 800132.
Replacing the stock box with the Borgeson seems like the right way to go, so I am going to order the Borgeson.

Is it also necessary to replace the stock with the Borgeson U-joint lower shaft?
Did this make a big difference in the steering and feeling for you?
I have been "warned" that replacing the stock steering coupler for the U-joint could result in more vibrations in the steering wheel and make it less comfortable.

Hopefully you can give me the feedback, then I know if I will also order the U-joint lower shaft or not. Thanks!

In my K25 I have a Borgeson standard ratio box and the u-joint conversion. Everything works well, but I think I now also need to replace the inner tie rods (this short tie rod is only on a 4wD) to get rid of 100% of the play. I did not notice any change in steering wheel vibration after the u-joint conversion.

When you get the new steering shaft, make sure you understand how it adjusts at the steering box end. There is a set screw that is hidden under a rubber protective bellows, and it gives you quite a bit of adjustment in shaft length. At first I was confused and thought the rubber was just there to reduce vibration. You can loosen the screw and shorten the shaft length so it goes on the splines, and then pull it back out and tighten the screw so you get full engagement of the splines on both ends.

For those considering a similar conversion, make sure you understand the differences in the original GM steering box over the years. If you look at an article on the jeep shaft conversion you will see that early steering boxes have a different size shaft connection. However, since my new Borgeson box has the later shaft connection, I had to buy a universal joint shaft that was different than the one listed for my ‘75. If you have an early truck, I recommend giving them a call to verify the parts you need.

Thank you for the helpful reply!
Seems like the best choice is to order both the Borgeson box and U-joint lower shaft to get the best result.
I do think I will order the quick ration instead of the standard box, give it a bit more "modern" feeling. Hoping for more comfort and control driving on highways and what not, without having to correct too much.
Now to figure out if it will fit or if I will be needing more for this conversion.
