My bad. SMH.

Jumpered the Battery and "S" and all I got was some sparks and an occasional knock. I'll take it as a bad starter. Thank you both! I'll report back with hopefully good news!

Yep you need a starter.

Starter replaced. Problem solved.

For future troubleshooters, I had started and stopped the Suburban maybe 10 times the day it died. So it is possible to have a starter just die on you.
