Hi:

I have a stock 85 C10 2WD with a 305.

The previous owner replaced the carb by the looks of it, so I'm not sure if it the original.

Issue:

Even when the engine is fully warmed up, every time I give it gas it switches back to the fast idle speed.

Below photo ("Fast Idle On") shows the tip of the screwdriver on the tab that causes the fast idle. It is in fast idle in this position.

Below photo ("Fast Idle Off") shows the tip of the screwdriver on that same tab in the normal idle position.

A very light press on that tab (towards the front of the engine) brings it back down to normal idle.

Does anybody have any ideas how to adjust / fix this? Is there some spring missing or secret adjustment?

Thanks so much for any advice. It is greatly appreciated.

The electric choke needs adjustment. Right to the left of your screwdriver.
The cover with three bolts, loosen them and then rotate that cover piece.

The choke isn't open enough. When you press the gas the choke closes a little bit, just enough to reset the high idle cam.

Thanks PrarieDrifter and Radiohead!

It worked like a champ. About 30 degrees clockwise brought it right back down.

I thank you, my torque converter thanks you, and my u-joints thank you
