I love JL Audio but the price tag on those amps with DSP is stooopid

I went with the next step down from DSP and still spent way too much money

I did this in the last one. It works flawless and is an ok setup but after using it a while some things I hate is you cannot adjust front/back/side and its one for all on the speakers. I did a factory delete place on the radio face and used magnets to put it behind the dash.

Go to your nearest BestBuy and test drive. The JBL Xtreme 4 is a good one.
I went by Best Buy and tried the Charge, Flip and Xtreme. The Xtreme was ahead by a mile. I did a lot of research and found this speaker called the Soundcore Boom 2 that gets lots of reviews that compare to the Xtreme for 1/3 the price. So cheap I can try it for little risk and see if this works for my needs, or do I want to go to an actual car stereo.

good idea, I was looking at the JBL Charge and JBL Flip, hadn't considered the Xtreme
JBL Charge is a good speaker. I have one, it gets loud enough to use in a vehicle and has decent sound. I've used a Turtle speaker too, that one was top end when I bought it and worked fine. The JBL surpasses it by a long shot.

And martinis...
I was thinking of trying to change my avatar so that Rat Fink is holding a martini glass. Not having much luck, AI keeps altering my truck colors...Got it! Had to use Gemini.

the charge sounds really good. I liked it a lot. But the Xtreme sounds much bigger. Mainly because it is much bigger, quite a bit bigger and more expensive too.

The other one i really like was the Sony ULT FIELD 5. It sounded at lot like the JBLs but a little less colored. But in a loud rumbly pickup uncolored and flat response may not be the best choice to cut through.

But this is the one i ended up getting.

Soundcore Boom 2

i'll get it on friday. i also got some magnetic mounts to stick it to the bottom of the dash below the ashtray. I'll post a pic and let everyone know how it works out.

First report of the bluetooth boombox.

1) the Soundcore boom 2 has remarkable low end thump for a compact speaker that cost under $100. WAY better lows than many $300 speakers
2) sounds MUCH better with the app. Use the eq to push the lows and highs all the way up and leaving midrange alone.
3) still working out the kinks for the magnetic attachment mount made from magnets and zip ties to hold the speaker in place.
4) Not loud enough. Seems like it should be much louder. Seems not as loud as the ones on the sales floor at bestbuy.
It is as if somehow my phone is limiting how loud it gets.
5) Media Button. Media button is a definite yes. The only part that is staying for sure. BUY ONE.
It doesn't have to be this one, but get one! You'll love it if you ever stream music from your phone.
I want one on my desk, or anywhere i sit to stream music or video from my phone. I like it better than the actual steering wheel
controls of my modern daily driver.
you can change songs, play/pause, adjust volume.
Do the same for youtube videos,
and also acts as a button to take pictures remotely.
I think it will also answer the phone too but haven't figured that out yet.
The best part is since it is connected to your phone not the speaker, you can use it to control every device that is connected to your phone.
They cost about $15 on amazon and there are a billion versions on Amazon for $15 to $30.
I stuck it on a spoke on the steering wheel with double stick tape for a low buck steering wheel control of the tunes.
This one is 1-3/8" in diameter so I am going to drill a 1-3/8" diameter hole in the steering wheel to flush mount it.

I have used JBL and Sonos and both sound great. If you're looking for value stay away from Bose, they are the most expensive mediocre audio products you can buy and are made for people that don't know what music should sound like. But that's just my experience after installing and repairing audio systems for the last 49 years. As we say in the business, Bose, no highs, no lows.
