What have you done to your square lately??

No, thanks. This is momma's mulch hauler and the last thing she needs is a filler neck in a spot that isn't safe from her carelessness. I already have a new Tanks, Inc EFI tank ready to slap in. The clamps came with the exhaust system, but they're known as 'band clamps' and invented by a...

    Junk Ass hose clamps

I avoid worm gear clamps if possible, and keep an assortment of Oetiker clamps and a few Gates Powergrip in the garage. They look much better than worm gears and function better, too.

What have you done to your square lately??

Today I prepped the rear of the frame for reassembly, and even got most of the reassembly done. New brake lines and hose, and the exhaust. My lower shock bolts are too long for my taste, so I’ll get new ones tomorrow.

    Tri Y action!!

Step 1 is to get a magnet. Stainless is often referred to as ‘non-ferrous’ meaning it has no ferrum (iron). That’s not quite true because stainless has varying amounts of iron depending upon the alloy. The amount of iron determines how much less it stains (rusts). If a magnet sticks to the...

    Should I Return/Exchange These Headers?

That mark is from the tubing bender clamping the straight tube during the bending operation. It’s fine from a durability standpoint. Of more concern should be the composition of the steel. It’s a mild steel, which is generally I’ll-suited to automotive exhaust applications. The reason it had a...

    Tilt column vendor

I got one from Steering Columns Galore. I had a tilt column to begin with, but I wanted a completely rebuilt unit. One nice aspect of that company is that they send you a prepaid label to return your core, and don’t charge you a core fee up front. If you don’t return your core within 30 days of...

    starter heat shield...aluminum or blanket?

In theory, that’s a good idea because of the reflectivity of the shiny gold material. In application, there’s so much filth that accumulates down there that the gold isn’t going to shiny for long. That stuff works great on race cars that are torn down after every event, but not so well on...

    5.3 swap - total newbie!!

I'm going through a similar swap at the moment, albeit with a 4L60E. This is my first swap on anything, and I suppose the important questions are: How much time are you willing to spend? How much money are you willing to spend? How much brain damage are you willing to sustain? I don't have...

    New guy building a truck

Thanks, guys. It's the most comprehensive build I've ever done, and the only domestic vehicle I've taken apart, which explains why idahovette is correct: Thanks, I'll spin them around! I have to take the steering apart anyway to install the foam washers that came with the idler and Pitman...

    New guy building a truck

This site has provided me some good reference information, so I thought it was time to introduce myself. About a month ago I picked up an '85 Sierra Classic for my wife to use as a Home Depot truck. The steering was worn out, the suspension was beat, and the engine was leaking oil from...
