73-87 (91) Fleetside Tailgate Mechanism Repair

My 1984 C10 tailgate mechanism was to the point where opening and closing the tailgate was difficult and I was beginning to bend the handle. Using this thread for inspiration......I removed left and right latches and the handle mechanism. All parts were basically OK but the handle was difficult...

    My 87 GMC Longbed

Welcome from up 68 in Stokesdale. Nice looking truck. If it does not have AC I can help you when you get to working on the heater. Just went through mine. At first I thought you meant you had a manual 3 speed. My 1984 is 250 I6 with 3 on the tree. Selo

    Heater refurb question

Update. I've been ordering parts and cleaning up the heater parts. Spending money like I have it! I've ordered and received: Heater motor and core, (O'Reilly). Resistor. (LMC) Passenger side, inner fender. (PartsGeek) Front and rear splash guards for both sides. (LMC). Once I removed the...

    Heater refurb question

Hey MikeB, Took your advice and checked with O'Reilly Auto. They had exactly what I needed and no vent hole etc. Comes with the fan wheel. Shipped to my home at no charge. Shakes my confidence in LMC. So I looked at O'Reilly heater cores and ordered that too. Murray Heat Transfer Heater...

    Heater refurb question

Hi Dougbert, Appreciate your wanting to help, but it is a non-AC heater so hose would have nowhere to go! Dmack, Great idea to get lube into the cable housing. I may do exactly that, but probably will use liquid silicone lube. MikeB, I gave up on the freakin bolt and took the fender well...

    Heater refurb question

chengny, Excellent information and much I needed to know to find a part. I assumed the two non-AC clamps were the same. The one at the inlet and outlet end of the core is the one corroded in two on my heater. I am having difficulty finding part-out trucks that are non-AC. Just like the 3...

    Heater refurb question

chengny, I took the cables off of the control module last night. Interesting that one cable showed no kinks or bends, but when I had it off the module could move the cable wire and feel an abnormal bend in the wire inside the cable cover. I straightened that as best I could and the cable works...

    Heater refurb question

chengny, I will definitely remove cables from control module to test. You are correct in thinking I was making the assumption the cables did not "slide" well because if I tried to make them move by pushing or pulling the end while still connected to the module, they don't move well. So I will...

    Heater refurb question

To my advisers! Cables for my non-AC heater do not seem to be available as repros, have any of you fellows ever lubricated heater control cables? I'm planning to use silicone grease on the Temp Control Assembly after if clean it up. Selo

    Heater refurb question

chengny, Great idea. and yes I do have the air handler out etc and can get to the screw threads inside the cab. Putting it back using the tape idea great as well. Thank you Bruce, wouldn't you know I have ONE fender well bolt down below the fan housing that is spinning. I've go to decide...

    Heater refurb question

Hey I'm with you both because I tried that. I can get a 1/4 in socket with swivel to the bolt, I just can't get my fingers in there to guide it onto the bolt head. Also the swivel allows the socket to drift down. Without my fingers in there can't get it on the bolt. I really don't see how I'd...
