    Rusted rear floor 1984 Suburban

The floor on my Suburban has rusted out just in front of where the tailgate sits. Of course no one makes a replacement panel for this area but I've been looking at a couple of companies who sell generic replacement panels for truck beds of the same era. I'm wondering if a section of truck bed...

6.2 rebuild for bad head gasket

Any particular brand of headgasket? I looked at some FelPro ones at RockAuto, says they're molded rubber construction, seems unusual.

6.2 rebuild for bad head gasket

It regularly fills the overflow tank on a 20 - 30 mile trip out of town, fine on the open road but overheats as soon we hit urban speeds. Get home and the overflow is always bubbling. Changed the thermostat, got a new slightly less pressure radiator cap, checked the waterpump etc etc Doesn't...

6.2 rebuild for bad head gasket

So after much diagnosing I've finally concluded that head gasket replacement is necessary on my '84 K20 Suburban 6.2 diesel. Does anyone have any advice on doing this procedure? Should I get the cylinders honed while I have it out of the vehicle or should I just replace the head gaskets with the...

'84 Suburban tailgate glass rubber moulding

Hi all, I'm needing to install a new rubber seal that the tailgate glass would sit in when it's fully up against the body. Right now there is nothing to support the glass when it's in the up position. In the picture it would be the piece going up the side and around the top of the glass. Being...

    Radiator with twin fans

Towed the boat up to where we launch from at the weekend, ran great, didn't overheat, didn't hear any bubbling in the overflow tank, a trip of about 25kms. When we got back later that afternoon drove slowly through town and then parked to do some shopping before heading home. Could hear bubbling...

    Radiator with twin fans

Yep, I hadn't thought of that, makes sense though if the engine is not really hot enough to "boil" off that a weak radiator cap would allow some pressure to vent off to the overflow bottle. I'll swap that out and see if it makes a difference. Guess I'd need to remove the front fenders/guards to...

    Radiator with twin fans

Haven't driven too far since I did the mod with the hydraulic fan clutch but driving round town the last couple of times when I've gotten home I can here the overflow hose bubbling into the overflow container. Temp gets up to about 160, so not real warm. I'm thinking maybe a head gasket has let...

    Radiator with twin fans

I took the fan clutch off today, spun the bi-metallic strip round to the next hole to lock it manually. Going to see what happens next time I take it out. Hopefully it won't overheat and we'll see if the fan clutch is the culprit.

    Radiator with twin fans

Anyone know the correct AC Delco replacement part number for the fan clutch? Down here in New Zealand they don't grow on trees. The wagon is an '84 K20 Suburban

    Radiator with twin fans

I've had the Suburban a few months now, used mostly to tow our 5m boat. Out on the open road at about 55mph the temp gauge sits about 180, when we get into town and have to slow down to urban speed the temp quickly goes up to about 200-210 as we get closer to the dock, it continues to rise...

    Radiator with twin fans

Has anyone replaced the stock radiator in their diesel truck with a new aluminum radiator and double fans? My Suburban overheats at idle, fine on the open road.

    1984 Suburban 6.2L diesel surging

Thanks for the replies. As far as I can see the only fuel filter I have is mounted to the firewall, I don't see the box style filter in the engine bay. My mechanical pump has been replaced with an electrical unit mounted to the right inner guard. From the engine manual I can see where the fuel...

    1984 Suburban 6.2L diesel surging

Hi, have had my Suburban two weeks now, haven't done much except tidy up a few bits in the engine bay and replace the turn signal wiring as a new one came with it when I bought it. I think I'm missing a small piece that goes under the horn button as the horn doesn't work. Anyway little side...
