    WTF horn issue

I give up. Clearly I either have the wrong parts or something is still missing. When I put the lock plate in there’s a slot that catches the plunger and shears it out of the plastic sleeve. I guess I’ll have to pull the column and have someone else do it or replace it entirely.

I am 100% convinced that Satan himself designed this ********.

Thread size for 5/8 steering wheel nut

Following up for anyone that may run into this in the future. There’s almost ZERO information online. Anyway, my 1979 K10 with a non-tilt column has an M14 1.5 thread. I found a die and cleaned it up in just a couple of minutes. I bought three different nuts. One from GM, one from the hardware...

Thread size for 5/8 steering wheel nut

This is for my 79 K10. Could be metric, I reckon, but I don’t have metric thread gauges. I’ll look into it. Thank you!

Thread size for 5/8 steering wheel nut

Good morning everyone. The threads on my steering column are a little boogered up. I’ve searched for quite a while and can’t arrive at a definitive answer for the threads per inch. It’s a 5/8 and my thread gauge makes it look more like 16 TPI, but that’s a little unusual. I’m wondering if it’s...

    WTF horn issue

Geez… I’m feeling like a complete moron. Of course that plunger can’t come through the wheel. Duh! Thanks for pointing out the missing lock plate. I’m on the hunt for one now. Everybody has been super helpful and I’m very grateful!

Apologies if I’m offensive. It’s “divorce week” and I’ve been struggling with this ‘79 for a few months. Feels like a one step forward situation. I appreciate everyone’s help.

    WTF horn issue

The plunger doesn’t even reach the collar. I swear, I’m going to kidnap a bad clown and just crush his nuts and call it a horn to pass inspection.

    WTF horn issue

Something seems wrong. The only hole I can even close doesn’t line up at all. Even if it did, I don’t think it would stick out enough, but I’m not sure.

Oh crud! I’ve been assembling it all wrong. Holy smokes! Thank you for that! It all makes soooo much more sense now!

    WTF horn issue

Hmmm… so I dabbed a little paint on the end of the plunger and then discovered that my steering wheel nut might be stripped. All I know at this point is that the plunger doesn’t seem to make contact with the steering wheel and that I need to make another trip to the parts store.

    WTF horn issue

Progress! I pulled a horn from a buddy’s salvage Tahoe and now if I ground the spring pin to the steering shaft I e got a horn! What I’m really struggling to understand is how the buckling plate assembly is supposed to work. I’m assuming that spring pin rides against the back of the steering...

Ah! Thank you for that! Boy, I'm sure looking forward to crawling around under the dash again.

    WTF horn issue

Sorry for resurrecting this zombie, but re-reading Matt69olds' reply raised a question for me. I believe that I have all of the required parts now and that they're installed according to all of the instructions I could find (put a pin in that). I also replaced the horn fuse which was blown. Now...

    WTF horn issue

Good afternoon, folks! I’m trying to figure out why my ‘79 does t have a horn. I picked up some parts from LMC in anticipation, but now I’m kinda baffled. I pulled the steering wheel and started inspecting, but I’m confused by what I’m seeing (and not seeing). Nothing seems to match up to the...
