    1987 V3500 Engine update

The engine showed up today at the freight terminal. Dyno sheet included. Interesting that the dyno sheet exceeded both the torque and hp for what was advertised for this engine.

    1987 V3500 Engine update

This truck originally came as a heavy emissions LT-9 350 with a carb. Apparently, 1987 was the last year of the Q-jet for the 350, and I believe it also had to be a cab/chassis, which this truck is.

    1987 V3500 Engine update

I will let you know. I had entertained a 383 longblock, the Atk HP90 in particular, but decided to stick to blueprint 350 as the truck has 4.56 gears and really won’t be towing much, mostly will be my mountain wood truck. Also wanted to reuse stock exhaust tubular manifolds and factory dual...

    1987 V3500 Engine update

Motor that’s in the truck ended up having 6 quarts of coolant in the oil pan. I believe the block is windowed and or cracked. PO was a fire dept, they said some new recruits filled the truck up with diesel and ran it till it hydro-locked. I’ve got a blueprint 350 TBI longblock coming for it...

    1987 V3500 Engine update

Yes Ramsey 12,000 lb electric winch. Still works fine. I believe 87 was last year for heavy emissions 350 >8600 gvw to get a q-jet. I believe the 7.4 carried on with the carb for possibly two more years with 49 state emissions and >8600 gvw. I could be wrong on that.

    1987 V3500 Engine update

I recently purchased an 87 V3500 C&C truck on an auction last month. Had to drive from southern utah to northeast Oregon to go pick it up. Seller said motor was seized from running diesel fuel in it. When I got the time, I put a breaker bar on the balancer and I could turn the motor easily. I...

    87 with 30 spline axles

I thought GM went to 30 spline axles in the 8.5” Corporate 10 bolt in 1989 and up. Previous owner could have swapped an entire axle out of donor vehicle that was 89 or newer?

Picked-up the 87 V3500 this weekend. Pretty good drive from Southern Utah to NorthEast Oregon. I was concerned it may have a little rust but it has zero. Here’s a few pics of it getting towed back to Utah.

    Finally, a squarebody forum!

Welcome from Utah! Btw, with that 400 sbc short block you have, if you run non oem 400 sbc heads, any other heads won’t have the steam holes drilled. This gets into an interesting discussion about the pros and cons of drilling but it’s worth looking into. Here’s a link on the topic...

Hey all, Just bought an 87 GMC V3500 C&C on an auction last week, not running. It’s a 350 drw, 4 speed with ac and tilt wheel, a high sierra. Motor is allegedly seized up. Still haven’t picked it up yet. It’s been 8 years since I owned my last square body, a 1991 V3500 crew cab 350 tbi, srw...
