I threw some tools at it and it decided to start finally!! but seriously I just installed headers and wanted to be included to see how far behind I am on fixing it up
I got almost all the loose ends tied up and test drove it just a bit ago and it seems to be much happier now. I wasn’t able to get a timing light so I haven’t messed with the distributor timing yet either. Now my issue is where to route the starter wires so they don’t met or burn.
Sounds to me like I’m picking up a timing light when I get paid again. Do I really need one of the $100 ones or would the $30 one I found be okay to use? It definitely needs new parts but they get a little expensive. Also I’ve found conflicting information about what type distributor I have so...
And those marks are the points on the metal plate that lines up with the groove in the balancer right? If so does that plate have the degrees on it to tell when it’s at a certain point?
How would I go about verifying the timing? I know it could probably be tweaked a little one way or another. How would one change the position of the advance unit and how would that help? I’m sure if it advances it to far or not enough it’ll run but just really bad right? How does the vacuum...
I do have one thing that is bugging me though. Obviously the exhaust gets hot but would they get hot enough to burn the oil off the engine block? It’s smoking pretty good from the engine behind the headers. More than it did with the factory logs on. My valve cover gaskets are toast so that’s...
I finally got it started!!! I’m not sure what I was expecting but it was definitely not to make myself deaf just by sticking my head under the hood with it running. Now I believe all my issues are the oil leaks from everywhere. I saw your reply after the fact but I moved all the wires one spot...
I found that same image a few days ago and the wires get pulled super tight and one or two of them won’t even reach from distributor to plug. I started with number one where the rotor is about to be. Should I try moving them all one spot over and see what happens?
Went and bought jumper cables because I seem to have misplaced the ones I had but it’s trying to start now and some cranks it keeps rolling for a second or two after I stop cranking. Maybe the battery needs a good charge on it before it’ll run? I can hear it trying to fire listening to the open...
I don’t have anything to catch it in but it’s all evaporated now. There’s marks on the frame where it spit out but nothing left and no more is coming out. I checked the coolant and oil and there isn’t one in the other so that narrows possible problems down right? Or is that wrong thinking
It cranks freely without the spark plugs but it’s shooting some kind of liquid out number 6 spark plug hole. It smells like gas and something else mixed together. I don’t have a helping hand so I can’t really verify anything in the engine bay by watching when I crank it over
